From now on we need to start a sentence or phrase with Amen, bless you,Jesus etc etc. If we intend on winning Iowa we need to show them that we talk the talk as well. Win over the Iowans with bible verse.Take a Sunday course or two and brush up on your bible studies!

I'd rather he didn't. I don't want him or us having to dramatically alter his our presentations to single out a specific group. His and our message overall appeals to everyone that is willing to open their ears and listen. Changing tones so dramatically can alienate others and even come back to bite us in the butt later on.

Um...do you think Christian conservatives are idiots? I think it is the wrong strategy to think you are going to fool people just by having the right catch phrases imo.

But if you are saying that we need to awaken Christians to their own tradition of Liberty in this country, then I'm with you.

I meant it for us the grassroots who will come in contact with the Iowans over the phone

First, I think the OP was talking about US, not the official campaign. We, as door-knockers and phone callers, need to relate to who we're talking to.

Second, there's a difference between "going off the deep end" and being consciously empathetic to a particular audience. No one is calling for you or RP to talk about the end times, purging the world of sin, etc. - instead it should be recognized that the typical IA, NH, and SC GOP primary voters are likely to place a high value on a candidate who believes in Christ as their personal savior, and lives accordingly.

So, it's the little things that need to happen: end your phone calls with "Have a blessed day!", imply that you're doing "good works" by proselytizing door to door, or if you get into a policy discussion try to analogize to the teachings of Jesus.

These are things that you can do, even if your not Christian, without being disingenuous. And none of these little things will be able to be used against the campaign in the general election when the audience changes. It's not about a dramatic change in tone, it's merely about focusing the message to the audience.

I don't know about many other non-Christian volunteers, but I am usually better versed in the teachings of Jesus than many Christians I talk to. I can use the stories to appeal to their morality without trying to "fool" them into thinking that I'm one of them.

Of course if any one person can't do this genuinely, its probably better that they don't try.

Ok, as follower of Jesus, if you started speaking like that to me, I would walk away and tell others how fake you are.

Agreed.....add to that an eye roll. The message of liberty is powerful enough on it's own, and the message of peace lines up exactly with the teachings of Jesus. No religious talk needed.

It'd be nice to see some ministers of large congregations get on board with Ron Paul. I'd also like to see those within the 'new age' movement recognize the importance of liberty as a noble goal rather than following blindly the UN's socialism particularly through the Zeigiest movement that is happening simultaneously. People are predisposed to ignorance and following blindly; such is the plight of man. All too often throughout history, we have time and again created our own slaughterhouses.

Meh. Their stupid enough to fall for the other candidates.

I agree that it's the wrong strategy, but that's because I can't stomach it myself. Do I think most American evangelicals would gobble it up? Yep.

No, the absolute last thing we want to do is come off fake when we're coming on strong. Paul has spoken about Christianity and referenced scripture enough to show he is a true Christian. That should suffice for the religious voters. If we run it up anymore, we run the risk of alienating non-religious voters.

Maybe the campaign should hire a christian reality tv star. I nominate this woman.

I remember in 2008 hearing Huckabee explain how he was so successful at winning the support of Christians by saying that he "spoke the language of Zion," or something like that, which was his way of admitting that he did exactly what the OP suggests. What I think he meant was that he would mingle Sunday School terms in his speeches, like "redemption" and whatnot. I didn't like it, and I don't respect people who do that. But I can't deny it works.

Absolutely. He shouldnt shy away from talking about his Christian conservative values. It's who he is. And to boot, it appeals to Iowa primary voters, if he bombs in Iowa he's gonna bomb everywhere else. It's common sense, only a fanatic atheist would object.

I don't like/respect it either, and the problem with this strategy is that as soon as another candidate comes along and says something more "conservatively christian" these potential voters will jump ship for whoever happens to be saying what they want to hear more loudly or eloquently. I agree we need ANY and ALL votes, but we really want votes from people who are thinking logically and will be able to piece together a cohesive sentence so that they can influence their friends and family.
