We need our own state.

Well, it looks like tons of people like NH. Maybe we should decide on NH and one other state (out west). That way both will be in close proximity to everyone.

There is the NH Free State Project, already working. I *think* there is also a Wyoming Free State Project of some sort as well? Or maybe I didn't read that and just thought I did because I agree having 2 states, one east and one west, would be a good idea. :D

I was planning on moving to Texas with my family anyways. Texas is known for standing up for itself no matter what so I say lets make it texas.

If you are talking about seceding, then I disagree that Texas is a good choice. We would be a direct threat to the nafta superhighway they are planning to build. That would be like standing in the middle of the road while a 16 wheeler truck was coming at you head on. I think we need to go North and out of the way of government as best we can. I believe an independent state would energize others to want to emulate us and that would cause Washington to have a problem. Standing in the way of what they are trying to accomplish would be a poor move.

I am from the Northeast and have wanted to go west partly for the sake of warmer climate, but I think this needs to be a non-issue in view of what we want. From my view, as some others have suggested, I think our best choice is a small populated state that has water access. I know Alaska may not be most people's first pick for where to go, but it's right on the water and would allow the quickest access for trade with Asia of practical states we could secede. Perhaps California, Washington or Oregon would be much more desireable, but for right now they are too big until we get some kind of estimate of how many people would follow through with this move.

On the other hand, I think the Northeast has a strong argument as well. Maine is right on the ocean and would have vast access to trade. A big plus, in my mind, is that three major Canadien cities are just across the border with not too much travel (Quebec, Ottawa and Montreal). However, if water access was not an issue - Vermont would be the better choice because it is basically half the population of New Hampshire and Maine which would make it easier to secede. Wyoming is obviously the least populated state, but I think it would really be a gamble to surround ourselves by non-seceding states. Instead of debating what state we like best, I think it would be better to write down what is necessary for a successful secession and I would suggest looking at it in view of how we would cope if the United States cut off all ties with us completely.
