We need a Social Security Commercial

Paul needs a social security commercial:

Have him sit in front of the camera (with Carol) and say,

Paul: "The debt of our nation is out of control, we need to rein it in, my plan cuts one trillion dollars."

Carol: "But it's not like you take an ax to everything we depend on"

Paul: "Oh no! I have common sense priorities! I do it without touching social security and medicare! It's all foreign spending and cutting bureaucrats in Washington, we need to take care of our citizens FIRST before we go and spend hundreds of billions overseas."

Agree 100%

We have to get "Herman Cain" on these people and outline a practical solution to their fears about Social Security.

I would also add into the message that the other candidates aren't going to balance the budget, which would ultimately lead to a failure of Social Security.

I agree, and am just repeating my post from another thread. Even direct mail would be good on this if the topic is very visible.

the campaign just put out an ad that says Ron is cutting a trillion WHICH SCARES THOSE WHO DEPEND ON SENIOR ENTITLEMENTS because they have been conditioned over and over that you can't balance the budget without gutting senior entitlements. I am thinking the people who review the ads don't get this because people don't tell them, because no one wants to say they are voting for benefits. But it is clearly how they vote. They see it as a contract right since they paid in all their lives and this is EXACTLY how Ron Paul refers to it, as well.

I even contemplated the point that Ron's excellent ad guy's wife works for Romney and we are going into New Hampshire when I saw the 'closing argument ad' touting the cuts and NOT adding "without cutting social security, medicare, or veteran's benefits". It is a HUGE deal, and it kept coming up to volunteer canvassers in NH. I hope they get on it. If not WE need to make flyers or something saying this and referring them to Ron's plan so people in New Hampshire can put them, along with a flyer made out of AF's ad on the energy eminent domain piece, under windshield wipers at senior centers. Something like:

Ron Paul's budget plan balances the budget in three years---

without cutting social security, medicare or veteran's benefits!

A fiscal conservative's plan with the right priorities!!!!

Then it would quote directly from Ron's plan:

Ron Paul's budget plan:

"Cuts $1 trillion in spending during the first year of Ron Paul’s presidency, eliminating five cabinet departments (Energy, HUD, Commerce, Interior, and Education), abolishing the Transportation Security Administration and returning responsibility for security to private property owners, abolishing corporate subsidies, stopping foreign aid, ending foreign wars, and returning most other spending to 2006 levels.

...

Honors our promise to our seniors and veterans, while allowing young workers to opt out. Block grants Medicaid and other welfare programs to allow States the flexibility and ingenuity they need to solve their own unique problems without harming those currently relying on the programs."

then sites where they can find the plan

Review Ron Paul's Plan to Restore America at: http://www.ronpaul2012.com/the-issues/ron-paul-plan-to-restore-america/

I feel like that is pandering though. Ron eventually wants these programs gone.

NOT for those currently depending on them. It is a generational thing. His plan lets the young opt out, so they are not paying in to begin with. Whenever Ron says 'transition plan' seniors think he means he will drop the ax on them a few years later when they are that much older and less able to work. He has to make it clear he doesn't mean that. He says he sees it as a contract right once you have paid in. He himself refused his congressional pension because he thought it was immorally high, and had to pay in, so he is the only one in Congress who sees it through the eyes of someone who got a paycheck for 30 years with large sums taken out every month supposedly to pay for this. It is a priority thing. In the end if there is no money the whole thing falls apart, but all the other politicians including Obama are preserving and increasing corporate subsidies while cutting senior entitlements paid into by people who were told this was 'insurance'.

I have had a number of discussions with relatives who said Ron was nuts, or whatever other trumped up thing, but whose opposition softened considerably when I worked this into the conversation. It is day and night. That is why I keep pushing this.

Gone for people like me (<35) who know they aren't getting Social Security anyways. This is a single issue for many of the elderly, and as we saw last night, they vote.

Social security, foreign policy, and that "Compassion" video, since the newsletters will surely raise their ugly heads once again.

This Social Security commercial is sorely needed. Seniors really dropped the ball on Paul in Iowa and have gone for Romney by a very big margin. If we can't get the seniors on our side and have to depend on the youth vote alone to carry us, we will have a real problem pretty soon.

Perfect opportunity for an animated style commercial in similar spirit as Mad Dog.

Perhaps it could start off with Social Security as an Elephant-in-the-Room-disaster that other candidates are just pushing off to future generations - then switch to other candidates faces plastered on donkeys with Ron's face plastered on an Elephant. Highlight Ron's plan to implement a short-term and long-term fix that will honor the presumed contracts while implementing something better for the younger folk.

Then end with telling people to take notice of the elephant in the room.

I agree on this. This is something Ron Paul needs to address to the American people and really drive home. I know many are worried that if Ron Paul is elected that he would get rid of Social Security. He needs to make sure people are educated. There are many people that are saying Ron Paul would get rid of Social Security. This is something they can use against Ron Paul. He needs to make sure people are well informed.

I am concerned about the solvency of Social Security too. If people can decide to opt out of Social Security that would make it more insolvent and give more reasons to get rid of Social Security. That is something I would be concerned about with Ron Paul's position of giving young people a chance to opt out. Also, young people don't think about retirement and they only think about money so they probably would opt out and that could be a problem when they hit retirement age with no money. I know Liberty is about people making choices and living with the outcome but in this case retirement planning is something young people may not be wise mature enough to do.

Yeah someone sent me a message on twitter saying that Ron Paul would take away his grandma's social security. This is really something we need to drive home.

Social Security and Medicare need to be addressed. Trust me seniors are worried that he'll cut these, they believe what the media tells them. He needs to be super aggressive on this issue. The youth love him, he doesn't have to waste money on foreign policy in NH. Also foreign policy is one of the few issues he is allowed to discuss in the debates, so stop wasting money on that message.

I think it's a good idea to get the older vote.

We also need to get the undecided vote and sway voters our way.

I work at a Catholic Church in San Diego, today we had our annual Christmas lunch at a restaurant.

Many of the volunteers are elderly, and the topic of Iowa came up. We started to talk about the wars and how we are stretched too thin around the world, including the billions of dollars we spend per year overseas.

I then said, "No one is serious about cutting the budget, Ron Paul is, but he knows we need priorities. Why are we spending billions for troops in Japan and Germany? Ron Paul says cut the foreign spending and use that money to take care of the elderly, the dependent, and our veterans here at home first."

They loved it. This is a winning issue, we just have to present it right.

i agree...everytime i try to tell older people about ron...the first thing that comes out of there mouth is "i like him but he wants to take away Social Security " so these guys are really just trying to protect there wallets...
