A few months ago, Austin Police Chief Art Acevdo responded to complaints about the abuse of a female jogger by his minions by saying, in effect: Hey, she should be grateful that she wasn’t raped: “In some cities, cops are actually committing sexual assaults on duty.”
In Austin, some on-duty cops are content to make jokes about rape victims that express unalloyed contempt for people who cling to the durable but demonstrably false belief that police exist to serve and protect the public:
