WBC to picket 9yr old Tucson victim's funeral - lawmakers respond

The only answer to bad speech is more good speech. So the tea parties should start picketing the WBC carrying signs like "The jackasses that go to this church are not part of the Tea Parties and never have been." And maybe blare some loud Elton John music at them to disrupt their services. Of course the "tea parties" in general suck so this will never happen.

Why is it nasty to point out that MOST people who suffer the identical fate as the victims in this incident (or worse) are totally ignored while these chosen few - due either to being the higher form of life known as government employees or being associated with them - are idolized?

What possible satisfaction do people get from telling people who they should and shouldn't mourn?

Like I said, nobody said life was fair. For a myriad of reasons, the nation has decided they want to cry together over this particular untimely death. Nobody is saying everybody have to cry with them, but yammering on with some "it's not fair these particular corpses get all this attention!" and "I'm intellectually superior and therefore I decree that they be branded as a bunch of stupid hypocrites" - you don't possibly see how that can make someone come off as an unlikeable, socially retarded prick?

Or better yet - do those people simply not care if they come off as unlikeable, socially retarded pricks?

I'm guessing the latter.

Remember Phil Ochs's The Dance?...and "the cycle of sacrifice unwinds"
I think he was thinking of the JFK murder. Not sure if I got the tilte right.

I am actually married to a huge Phil Ochs fan - from his side of the couch he said that the song is "Crucifixion" and it is about JFK, but the real message was a commentary about how we love to kill the revolutionaries that we love.

Okay now this is just getting weird. I had never questioned the authenticity of the WBC until now, but while reading articles and comments about these people it came to me that if they were paid to do this crap, it would sure drive up the support for passing laws against free speech. Comment after comment was something like "I support free speech and all but something needs to be done" and even worse...

things that make you go hmmm.

Well , maybe they do this for publicity and to purposely get people to act against them so they can continue to fund themselves through lawsuits .

Lol

Are you talking about the mass media telling people they should mourn this poor little girl? Or are you suggesting that I am telling people they should not? Not clear. But the mass media profits from manipulating people's emotions, including sadness. And politicians push their corrupt agenda by doing the same thing. If we are ever to be free it is ESSENTIAL that we see through this manipulation. And the fact that the mass media and political spin doctors can manipulate the nation into mourning one isolated person when every damned neighborhood in the country has at least one family that has lost a child tragically is, in my opinion, a clear demonstration that we are a million miles away, as a nation, from breaking the chains that bind us.

The emotional manipulation techniques that have focused the country on this one tragedy among millions are IDENTICAL to the emotional manipulation techniques that bring the nation to focus its hatred on the "enemies" the politicians and mass media choose for us. They can make you hate. They can make you love. They can make you fear. They can make you cry. And that is why you are a slave. Until people learn to not be driven by emotional manipulation, the world will continue to be the wretched mess it is today. Mind you, this is not at all saying that people should not feel emotions. Just the opposite. They should feel emotions so clearly that they cannot be manipulated.

Personally, I mourn for the entire human race all the time. This event and these vicitms are drops in an ocean of tears. The only exceptional tragedy in this case is the manipulation surrounding it. A manipulation that you embrace.

Like I said, nobody said life was fair.

I never said it was or wasn't.

For a myriad of reasons, the nation has decided they want to cry together over this particular untimely death.

Wrong. The "nation" didn't decide a damned thing. The same opinion makers and spin doctors that decide who we will bomb and who we will torture and who we will put in the White House decided that we would cry for these victims. So cry away. But don't kid yourself that there is any "reason" for it. You have been told to cry. That is the only reason.

I'm not a contestant in a popularity contest. Some people think I am heartless because I oppose corrupt, unsustainable government social programs. Some people think I am a pansy because I oppose the world empire. Some people think I am a degenerate becasue I oppose the war on drugs. Some people think I hate the arts because I oppose government subsidy. And on and on. And some people think I am "an unlikeable, socially retarded prick" because I expose the fact that they are emotionlly driven puppets on a string dancing to the tune of their masters. So dance away little puppet, if it makes you feel better. You really have no choice. Until you master your own emotions.

Or better yet - do those people simply not care if they come off as unlikeable, socially retarded pricks?

I'm guessing the latter.

I choose my battles carefully and keep my mouth shut about many things. But emotional manipulation of the human race is THE VERY CORE of what is destroying us. If you can't see how people are being manipulated to care about a tragedy that is far removed from their lives and at the same time ignore the equal tragedies around the corner, you will NEVER see the truth about why the world groans under the burden of endless war, brutality, and corruption.

How is it legal for lawmakers to ban protests from 300 feet of funeral or burial sites?, and does it apply to all burial sites and for how long?:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2011/01/11/AR2011011103607.html?hpid=topnews

Well, it probably isn't, from a Constitutional perspective anyway. WBC always protests on public throughways, aka, public sidewalks. This 300 feet thing is arbitrary, why not make it the radius of the whole town? Then no one can protest diddly. It's these kinds of laws that gets WBC winning lawsuits and getting even more publicity. Just ignore them. I went to see Bill Cosby and they were right on the sidewalk by the entrance. They don't shout and scream or spit. They just stand there with their signs.

It's this "something needs to be done" rhetoric that WBC doesn't necessarily "thrive on" but it does help prove their point in a way as Matthew 34 says, "For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of". WBC isn't the hate-monger, the signs are just attention getters really. It's the hatred directed at WBC imo that is what gets them all the press. People in this day and age are full of hate, and WBC is an easy target for that hate. I mean seriously, what happened to "love your enemies" (Luke 6:27-29).

It probably sounds like I'm "defending" them but I'm not. I just understand where they are coming from, in the Christian sense. Not saying I agree with their methods, but from a biblical perspective I can see why they believe what they believe and I don't think they are evil. In fact if you read their website and look at their videos, a lot of it is quite humorous. People say, "but they are disrespecting the dead!". Well, don't you believe they are in heaven? Why do you mourn then?

Anyway, point is that people are so filled with hate themselves when they see the signs these people make that they're willing to sacrifice freedom of speech for everyone in their town in the blink of an eye, that's the main point. So if you disagree with them best thing is to ignore them and go about your business like we do here in Topeka. Hating them, couter-protesting them, passing laws against them, etc. is the wrong strategy. If you think them a troll, don't feed them is my point.

In unrelated news, lots of other people died, including innocent children, in random accidents and acts of violence, including acts of violence directly or indirectly caused by our government. No one will picket the funeral. No one will collect money for a memorial fund. No reporters will talk or write about them. No one will tell you to care. So you won't.

OK, agreed, but what's the point? MSM chooses which events upon which to focus - this may be the result of manipulation according to some agenda, which I find likely, or just the result of the fact that there is more shit going on in the world than there is time to report on it all. Now that I think of it, it is both. This is probably pretty apparent to most of us here, and so I return to the question regarding the point of your note. What would you have people do?

The country isn't being thrown together. From what I have seen politicians are falling all over themselves to try and use this event to promote their own agendas which consists mostly of stifling dissent, limiting liberty, and increasing surveilance.

Sorry, but none of that inspires me.

And, by the way, in talking with the folks around the office here, there are many people who are wondering why when a bunch of poor folk die an agonizing death in the desert (as they do annually), it barely makes the news, but when a federal official dies, the f%&$&ing president comes to town.

This is a media-created frenzy with ugly political overtones. And I don't like media manipulation OR trying to make political gain on the tragedies of human life. Call me a socially retarded prick if you want, but it stinks of hypocrisy.

Hypocisy: Denouncing something while doing it yourself.

New word I invented -- Hypoacracy: What the U.S. empire and its boot licking client states are founded upon.

Really?

Are you really suggesting that the media saturation, the obviously scripted party line being shouted from the mountaintops, the superbowl of fake sympathy for the victims is just because there isn't time to report on the other things going on?

Holy s%&t! We are so screwed.

This event would have made Goebbels blush.

From the instant it happened, the propaganda machine went into overdrive. A script developed in response to the Oklahoma City bombing was revised and distributed for politicians, pundits, and news media to blast across the nation. It was, of course, a big fat lie with no basis in fact, but when wedded skillfully to a tear-jerking story of the tragic death of a child, and included in EVERY news broadcast, press conference, and editorial for several days, it was effective. Nearly half the population now believes that the Tea Party had a role in instigating this murder. And then, once the big lie had been fully distributed, Obama could play the role of reason and say essentially "nobody really knows why he killed these people so let's not talk about it anymore". But the propaganda work was already complete.

If you speak out against government you are a child murderer.

What's my point? My point is don't buy into this f&*%&%g propaganda! Denounce it. Point out to people that they are being manipulated. Point out the lie. So what if the puppets think you are an "unlikable, socially retarded prick"? It's the truth. And the alternative is the end of liberty.
