Washington State Considers Ending the “Virtual License to Kill” Given to the Police

Hey AF, could you just explain to me.

What would we do about crime without police?

I'll bite.

Do you tolerate crime? Do you let people steal from you?

At one time it was considered the civil duty to enforce law. And to present law breakers to trial,, personally.

Many State constitutions had this codified.

Further, It is the Duty of the elected Sheriff to protect those in his jurisdiction,, to protect those accused of a crime and to insure that his rights up to and including a fair trial are protected.

not to prey of his constituents.

So let's challenge it. I assert that a world without police is impractical. What say you?

Your assertion is utterly devoid of meaning. Please elaborate on what you mean by "impractical". Be specific and exhaustive in the broader strokes.

There are any number of alternatives to government run police forces, from private security forces, to volunteer forces, to abolition of police where they are not needed.

That will solve nothing and could, in fact, prove far and away worse.

Constituting ANY form of standing force runs very real and likely risks of tyranny raising its head. The problem is almost entirely cognitive in nature. Once an equivalence class is established, a schism arises between the members of that class and everyone else. This is a result of the cognitive structure of the human psyche. It is a great mechanism for ape-men living in trees, scratching their anuses with twigs. It is even great at certain times for technologically enabled, abstract thinkers. The problem lays in the apparent fact that the latter do now know how to turn it on and off with propriety. They leave it mostly or entirely on and that gets us into lots of trouble. Can you say "Allahu akbar!"?

The best suggestion you give is that of a volunteer organization, but you do not go far enough. There must be definite limitations on the nature of volunteering and the penalties for criminal action while operating under the public trust (a term which needs clear, complete, and correct definition) must be severe, almost to the point of being draconian. Consequences are the ONLY effective deterrent to tyranny. There is no other.

So obviously, police don't eliminate crime.

They do, in fact, enlarge criminal reality.

Vastly.

thank you sir.
yes, the "police" are indeed the problem.
they work for a "corporation" and are NOT accountable to the people.

my own place of residence was "incorporated" in 1850.
this was not the founders intent.
today, sadly, most people do NOT know the difference between the "Police" and a sheriff.
in fact, even most of them who call themselves such are ignorant.

this is NOT a minor distinction.

of course we need a sheriff.
Police? hell no! :)

I should add that Pcosmar and I explained it.
