Paul Ends His Campaign

Rep. Ron Paul has ended his campaign for the Republican presidential nomination, breaking the news in a seven-minute video posted on his campaign Web site Thursday...

..."Winding down" is how Benton described the next phase of the campaign. "Dr. Paul acknowledges that he will not be the nominee but will continue to travel to address supporters and encourage grass-roots activism to influence the process and return the Republican Party to its traditions of limited government and personal freedom," Benton said.

I'm confused...

I love how we can complain about the Main Stream Media's blackout (and rightfully so), and still link to interviews he get on youtube with MSM people like Chris Matthews and Tucker Carlson. Ron Paul can do no wrong.

If we are ever going to succeed I think we need to get as many people as possible to understand what we are fighting for. I feel that if Americans only knew what was going on around them we would have a majority of support for Ron Paul in this nation.

We all should know by now how important it is to get a president such as Ron Paul in the white house who will try to save us from an imminent monetary collapse. But with so many people unaware that this is our goal and only trusting in what they hear from television, our task is increasingly difficult. Sometimes the prospect of defeat may depress even the most dedicated supporters. But if you support Ron Paul because you want to fight to uphold our constitution so that we may preserve our liberties and save our nation from financial disaster, then you do not have the luxury of defeat. What we will be required to endure to win will be nothing compared to what we will forced to endure if we lose.

If you knew what it would take to win this election, would you do it? If it would take exactly as much effort as you possibly could give to assure victory, would you give it if you knew we would win? We can win! If all it will take is more effort from us, then what is stopping us from our victory? No matter what we are up against, I tell you that we are our worst enemy if we do not do at least as much as we are able to. I am not saying we should not fight those that try to hinder us, I am saying we should never stop the fight. We need to do everything we can to fight as hard as we possibly can. We must get others to understand that those who desire freedom for this nation have been left with only one choice in this election. Ron Paul or Bust!

"If you will not fight for the right when you can easily win without bloodshed, if you will not fight when your victory will be sure and not so costly, you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance for survival. There may be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no chance of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." - Winston Churchill

The failure of this campaign has nothing to do with lack of effort by supporters or lack of understanding by voters. It has entirely to do with the personality of the American electorate. For the past 100 years the people have been conditioned to accept big government and they have become dependent on it, financially, mentally and emotionally. Most people understand Ron Paul's platform and the prospect of living in the world which he describes, frankly, scares the hell out of them! That is because they are afraid of personal responsibility. Personal liberty can be fun, but only if you are prepared to deal with the consequences of your own bad decisions or circumstances beyond your control without any sort of dependable safety net.

People right now believe that the government provides a safety net for them and if something bad happens, whether it be an economic recession, a floor or hurricane, unemployment, etc. that there will be some government program they can fall back on. They do not know the details of the program, whether it exists and whether it would truly save them if bad circumstances befell them, but they believe it exists, and that gives them a warm fuzzy feeling, which is all that is required to keep them waking up every morning and trudging through their lives, going to work, running up credit card debt, etc.

The only way this campaign could succeed would be to succeed in changing people's minds and how can you do that when their entire lives they have believed something else? Sure, a lot of people have been converted to Ron Paul, but you don't see a lot of big-government socialists being converted. It's people who were disenfranchised with politics, young people who didn't know anything about politics until Ron Paul came along, and stubborn old Libertarian curmudgeons who have been desperately clinging to their ideology for decades. These people are easy to convert. They are either desperately seeking something new, a blank slate, or they are already on the bandwagon. But what about the millions upon millions of big government socialists that populate this country and choose the president each year, both Democrats and Republicans? Those are the people who need to be converted and those are the people who can't be converted. Their beliefs are too deeply ingrained and no amount of logic or fantasizing about freedom and liberty will erase the fear of personal responsibility and the unknown that drives their political beliefs.

Frankly,I don't think Americans are willing to pay the price our Fathers have in the past.I think they have had it bred out of them to stand, fight and win at anything any more.If it were up to this very generation of Americans to to stop Hitler now we'd all be speaking German.Since 1950,under the Truman administration we have been on a no-win policy. We started when Truman refused Patton to enter Berlin so as not to offend the Soviets,From there firing MacArthur because it offended the Chinese. From there to once again least we offend the Russians. We lost politically in Viet Nam.And finally to todays little War were on a no win policy least we offend the Arab world by bombing a mosque full of terrorist. While we here at home pay more than $300 per gallon of gasoline with a high tax added to it.And again we pay more now than any generation in our history for such things as a simple gallon of milk for our children or a loaf of bread,or a pound of sugar while we as Americans feed the dam world and take a bullet between the eyes like in Somalia for feeding them.So yea we need Ron Paul in the oval office but even if he got there,is he really going to do something about it,or just go along as all the rest have done since the year I was born. For me since every one now days like to quote sayings Heres mine."Don't fire unless fired upon, but if they mean to have War then let let it begin here"Capt.John W Parker.1775 village green.Well they have fired first are we going to respond or as usual sit back take and hope it gets better some day!
