warn others! very serious stuff Good bye rights

Since when have we had any rights to distribute other people's works without permission?

Try going and standing outside Barnes and Noble and handing out free photocopoes of Ron Paul's book. See how long before Ron Paul gets pissed at you. Because he will. Ron Paul is NOT in favor of copyright infringement. No sane person would be. (Which is why it is such a popular topic on these boards.)

Umm your obviously blinded by your love for big government.

THEY WILL BE ABLE TO SEARCH YOUR LAPTOP JUST BECAUSE YOU WANT TO CROSS THE BORDER.

This doesn't have anything to do with DISTRIBUTING COPYRIGHTED WORKS

The searching of laptops is already happening!!!

Oh FFS, this is complete bullshit. I'm one of the more "anti-Conspiracy" people on this forum. I think folks who believe there's some conspiracy to make the world into a one world government are nutjobs. I think 9/11 truthers need to get a life. I think folks who believe the moon landings were faked are insane. But when it comes to this, this is just outright CRAP. What part of the fourth amendment to these assholes not understand? G-d dammit, like hell I'm not going to encrypt my laptop and everything else I have. They can have fun trying to decrypt it while they toss me off to Guantanamo. If it's US officials who are searching me without a warrant and without probable cause, it's an infringement on my rights.

Encryption folks. learn to use it.

I like the idea of enforcing it, as I hold many many copyrights. however, i DO NOT want people assuming someone stole my copywrights and be searched without me thinking they were stolen.

what's more, that's like the government searching your car because random people's shit gets stolen from their house. No reason to think you did it, no reason to search you.

They can infringe on your rights all they want these days and nobody is going to do a thing to stop them. Look at the Liberty Dollar people. They had everything they had 'stolen' from them by the government and nobody has done a thing about it. There has been no arrests, trial or nothing at all done. They had their rights infringed upon and nobody has done a thing to correct this injustice.

You can cry 'I'm an American', 'you are violating my constitutional rights' all you want and all that crying will fall an deaf ears. Nobody gives a flying crap about your rights. At least nobody who is with the government enforcing these confiscations and violations of people rights gives a damn about your rights.

People like us, who know what is going on can't get our foot in the door to stop any of this from happening and as time goes by, it will continue to happen more and more. Seems nothing can be done to correct the continuing and escalating injustices we are being confronted with on a daily basis.

What ever happened to Liberty Dollar, anyway? Did the Feds ever get back to them about the whole thing? Did NutHaus get arrested?

Guilty until proven innocent. This treaty basically makes EVERYONE who owns a computer guilty.

YOU ARE GUILTY IF:
-- You download music, videos and other multimedia/programs from the internet.
-- You get music from a friend.
-- You visit a website that's likely to have music, videos and other multimedia/programs.
-- You cannot produce a receipt or proof of purchase for ANYTHING.
-- You view other people's pictures.
-- You save other people's pictures.

Even though it's unenforceable (they'll lock up 99% of the country over night for this) plenty of innocent people will get caught in it. It will bring the internet to a standstill. Any media sharing site will have the ability to get sued.

Here's the catcher for the accuser, though, and I'm repeating this from another topic I read. There have been a couple cases where petty (petty = they weren't operating a site like, say, PirateBay) music downloaders and pirateers have been caught and sent to court. They've always won because in the end there is no real case. Someone's defence was "Well, if I couldn't download it for free I would have not bought it. You were not losing any money." -- He won.
Court costs outweigh petty copyright infringements. In the end, the corporation/accuser will lose, and end up paying court costs that far exceed any profit that would have been made from a sale.

But this treaty will not cease to slow down parts of the internet.

Nope... they took all of the computers, the gold, silver and copper and said they were going to auction it off. They even took the gold and silver backing the warehouse receipts. There has been no other action by the Feds. They have arrested no one. There is no trial date set or anything. It is like they took the stuff and are not going to worry about the legalities of it in the least.

Here's my email to my 700-some contacts. Please do copy it and spread it around. Improve on it, etc. ;)

ACTA TREATY will kill the internet! [URGENT]

G8 Summit, July 2008
An attack on the internet and an attack on you is coming. You could be classified as a criminal overnight. The ACTA Treaty, or Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement, will give governments the right to seize your computer, MP3 player, or cell phone at any time if they suspect you have "stolen" digital goods. Your belongings will be searched at airports and border crossings. Your ISP (Internet Service Provider) will be allowed to hand over all your internet activity to the government.

It will may block you from using anonymous services such as proxies and encryption, used to protect you from computer hackers and malicious crackers.

This is an outright attack on the internet and privacy. It will criminalize much of the world. Anyone who has downloaded one song, one video, one image. If you watch Youtube or Google videos, or anime online. If you get music from a friend. All this and more will classify you as a criminal in the eyes of the government - no - the world.

This treaty seems to be unenforceable but expanded permissions may allow anti-counterfeit police to totally wipe your hard drive and fine you, without any court challenge from major companies. This is speculated and not confirmed.

Countries in the Treaty include the United States, European Union, Japan, and Canada. If you are in these countries you should do your duty to protect the internet as it is. Write letters to your congressmen, your representatives, your leaders and especially your internet provider. Keep spreading the word.
