Want to communicate to Iowa State Ron Paul kids? Let's run a newspaper ad!

Can you pledge financial support to this ad initiative?

Ok, so now that things are becoming more focused, let me summarize the prices and exactly what we're doing.

In order to mobilize the college kids in Iowa for the Iowa Caucuses and for the help with campaigning, I have proposed to run a "Call To Action" ad campaign at the Iowa State University (~18,000 Iowa residents in student body), and after suggestions from parocks, I've decided to expand that to the University of Iowa in Iowa City (~15,000 Iowa residents in student body).

This "Call To Action" is not meant as an educational campaign or to convince people to vote for Ron Paul - young people are internet-savvy and can figure it out, we are already strong with that group. What we DO need is for that group to get out the vote, to know the Caucus date, to register to vote, and to turn up for Caucuses!

To organize this effort and have some tangible benefit, a sign up webpage is being developed by parocks, where the registrants will enter their emails and geographical locations such as zipcode/county. The ads will have a link to the sign-up website, and people will be encouraged to register there to be informed about meet-up groups for Ron Paul and to be able to receive free campaigning materials for Ron Paul.

(1) Iowa State in Ames, Iowa

Iowa State will be targeted via Iowa State Daily (daily printed circulation ~12,500).
  • A black-and-white PRINT ad, which is roughly 3" X 3", costs approximately $480 for 15 consecutive days (newspaper is printed monday - friday).
  • The online ad package includes two versions of the same ad: one medium rectangle (a 300 pixel x 250 pixel) ad and a half page ad (300 pixel x 600 pixel). We are allowed 500 hits per day on these ads, and they are rotated through the entire newspaper website (iowastatedaily.com). This costs $70 per week for a maximum of 2 weeks, or $300 for the entire month.
The website for Iowa State Daily apparently gets a lot of hits, and the person from ad sales just wrote this to me:

(2) University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa

The University of Iowa will be targeted via The Daily Iowan (daily printed circulation ~14,500).
  • A black-and-white PRINT ad, which is roughly 3" X 3", costs approximately $340 for 5 consecutive days (newspaper is printed monday - friday).
  • Every day the ad appears in the print edition, it will also appear on their website at no extra charge. However, the ad can be linked directly to our voter sign-up webpage for an additional $5 per day.
For the lazy who don't want to read any of the above,
  • Iowa State Daily (Ames, Iowa): $480 on paper for 15 days + $70/week online edition
  • University of Iowa (Iowa City, Iowa): $340 on paper for 5 days + $5/day online edition (when ad is also in print)

blimpin ,get'er done

There's the map.

I have a blank box to put in your county. It's mandatory.

every single registered user of the site who included city and state should be on the map. the google map does not need zipcode or county.

Oh man, GREAT WORK!!!!

I love this.

Anyway I could see a screenshot of the registration page the way you got it set up now? If it's too much trouble, don't worry about it.

So it sounds like we just gotta delete anything Bachmann and move it over to its own RP domain, right?

yeah, northern iowa as well

You should kick in Northern Iowa newspaper and Drake's too.

Well OK, guys -- I have no problem with that. I didn't include those to save some money because I'm not sure how much we'll be able to raise for this initiative, but I will gladly find out the info for advertising in Northern Iowa U and Drake's.

Problem is, Northern Iowa U newspaper may not be as high-quality as Iowa State and U of Iowa, so the readership will be less, but I guess you're right -- it's worth a shot to hit as many large campuses as we can.

In addition to this

"What we DO need is for that group to get out the vote, to know the Caucus date, to register to vote, and to turn up for Caucuses!"

We need to identify strong Ron Paul supporters, who will work for the campaign or work on projects. We need the various people who like Ron Paul
to be working together on projects.

Running the GOTV, having a dorm leader, a floor leader, things like that.

However, caucuses will probably not be held when school is in session.

Oh this tells me we should put the "SCHOOL/COLLEGE" field in the registration, too! Could be good info to have!

If you notice on the sock puppet profile, every column is clickable.

If you click Iowa, you get all Iowans
If you click Story, you get all Story County
If you click Ames, you get all Ames
If you click Iowa State, you get all Iowa State.

State, County and City are all required.

That's pretty amazing. Excellent work.

I had one concern if we should require the city or keep it optional -- people may not want to give out too much identifying information, so I don't want that to prevent them from registering, which is why county would be less personal than zipcode, but I may be wrong on that. The map is certainly a great feature.

How can I see the current registration page you're working on? I went to the register link, but it's showing the old registration interface I used to sign up.

No deleting is necessary. Copy and paste. It's my understanding that this can be duplicated. I could be wrong about that.
Never did that before. This particular site has the problem of having bachmann2012.com just pointing to webmusicvideo.com/bachmann2012 which
I think hurts search engine ratings. Testing new features I'd rather do on a site like bachmann, rather than something that actually serves a purpose.

I don't know why you'd want a screenshot.

Here's how the new one works.

The first page is the same.
Click the next button.
Then the additional questions.

If there are any concerns about privacy, you'll notice that although they are required to give this information, they can set levels of privacy on each of the pieces of information.

The message needs to push people to vote because that is how we will win.

The message needs pushed that we must vote.

Yea, I'm trying to think of a clever slogan, but I haven't come up with something catchy. Let's all brainstorm...

Something like "It's "Do Or Die" time. You MUST vote in Iowa Caucus on [January 3]. Ron Paul gave his life to serving America, now put him in the White House."

The more I think about it, the more I think that we don't have the luxury of time, of waiting for dates to be announced for Iowa Caucuses and NH Primary. They are dragging their feet, and they may catch us off-guard when they do make up their minds because it takes a while organizing people to campaign.

So, I propose we shout out a generic "Call To Action" message with the website to get people to sign up, rather than specifically advertising the DATE of the Primary at this time.

Thoughts?

I think that might be a good idea. Those caucus dates are going to be getting kicked back and forth, discussed and argued over well into next month IMHO. We need to get moving right now, because time is running out.

edit: PS - count me as a "yes" vote toward the chip-in.

Thank you!

I will be working on putting together this ad in Photoshop and put it up later, so people can see what I'm after, critique, and get it finalized. Then we can move some money.
