“I did not do what I should have done to read and find out whether Bush was telling us the truth about Saddam (Hussein) being responsible for 9/11 and having weapons of mass destruction,” Jones said in a 2015 radio interview. “Because I did not do my job then, I helped kill 4,000 Americans, and I will go to my grave regretting that.”

Jones signed more than 11,000 letters to families of dead troops since 2003, an act he told The Associated Press was “penance” for his vote.

He became an active voice against foreign intervention and I believe his sincerity and regrets.

Walter B. Jones dies aged 76

I am very sad to report the death of Rep. Walter Jones:

Washington (CNN) North Carolina Republican Rep. Walter Jones died on Sunday at age 76, according to a statement on the congressman's website.

"After faithfully representing the people of Eastern North Carolina in Congress and the state legislature for over 34 years, Congressman Walter B. Jones (NC-3) passed away this afternoon in Greenville, North Carolina. He was 76," the statement reads.

Jones died on his 76th birthday, according to The Washington Post.

Walter was an inspiration, initially he was pro-war but after listening to Ron Paul he changed his mind and became a fierce critic of war. He will be sadly missed.
