Walmart abandoning cities in response to out of control theft

I thought that Portland was a great big open-air showroom for their camping products.

They could go out in a blaze of woke if they would donate their remaining stock to the homeless of Portland.

Funny. They actually have some really nice stuff there. I never heard of them until about 10 years ago, when they opened a store in Rhode Island.
Their approach is quite different. Like a club. The RI store is still doing well. Our human imports and domestic pets are not as restless, it would seem. And yes, we have lots of them, thanks to the Dems. But we wouldn't put up with this kind of b.s. like they do in other parts of the country. Which is why it doesn't happen here.

Access to fresh and healthy foods. Ha, ha, ha.. Most of what is in Walmart is not fresh and healthy food. Most low income people eat nothing but junk, processed foods.

I get a lot of healthy products from Walmart & at a decent price- especially in today's world.

I am sure you do.
Most people wouldn't even know what fresh and health food is. Look at the grocery carts around you. They are overfilled with highly processed junk food.

This cannot happen more often or fast enough.

The solution to the problem is clearly to reopen later with tight biometric access controls tied to face recognition and digital IDs to monitor and track all entrants and their purchases. That'll show those recalcitrant yoots who runs shit, right? Maybe a liberal head will 'splode so it's all worth it to ensure a megacorp doesn't lose some merch, a few imaginary dollars and we all feel safer.

It's not Clown World. It's conditioning.

Who is it that's driving these wedges? What is this "Libertarian Left" thing and what's "libertarian" about it? The libertarian way of dealing with people taking "reparations" by force is hot flying lead, followed by closing the store and moving the remaining merchandise to a place where it's possible to do business.

The Psyop is producing memes now, and some of them are designed to isolate us.

Leftist libertarians use copper bullets, they are better for health and the environment

No idea how it is in the cess pool cities but here I can selectively use Menards , local grocer ( bought out by kroger) , local butcher, dollar tree , dollar store, local owned liquor store chain , aldi etc and buy everything better and cheaper than walmart. walmart just has the worst parking lots not the best deals, I wouldnt buy meat there but its OK for oil if they are out at Rural King.

Shameless propaganda. "Crime is not a problem, it's a glut of stores". Solution? Denser population.

Somehow they forget the endless talk about "food deserts", which happen to coincide with high crime areas. Nothing to see there, move along.

The real reasons stores such as Walmart and Starbucks are closing in big cities

...
Several forces are pushing chains out of some city centers: a glut of stores, people working from home, online shopping, exorbitant rents, crime and public safety concerns, and difficulty hiring workers.

To reinvent downtown retail, drastic changes may be required.
...
That means denser neighborhoods with a broader mix of affordable housing, experiential retail, restaurants, entertainment, parks and other amenities, which won’t happen overnight.
...
A glut of stores

Some of those policymakers, including both Republican and Democratic leaders, have pointed to crime as a chief reason for the closures, following videos of brazen shoplifting incidents.
...
What’s more, experts agree, the closures aren’t just about crime. Several trends have converged to put these stores at risk.

Perhaps most key is the glut of stores in America.

Next up: No one needs stores full of groceries when you can eat bugs...

Target Might Close Stores due to this also.

Target drawing a line

Cornell, though, drew a direct link between crime and closing stores. On top of that, Target threw in specific financial consequences from crime: $500 million loss in profits this year, following a $600 million loss in 2022.

“Safety of our guests and employees are our top priorities,” he said. “We will do everything in our power to keep our stores open.”

The company has hired extra security guards and is placing more and more merchandise behind locked cases.
