I think the coal stocks were due to take some hits on an election year where the republican already attended a conference on global warming.
There has been talk about a carbon emissions tax which would just crush the short term value of these stocks if it got through. (no worries under bush, i don't think)
The plus side is that we are trying to become more oil independent, and coal is a great way to fill in some of the gap.
Fear of war with iran is driving oil higher than i expected it to go before august. But i don't think we will see the corresponding jump in XOM/RDS without news that they will get a contract in Iran. (since their most likely contracts in iraq would suffer from a war). If they get the contracts in iran then i think the war is far less likely to happen.
I bought RDS (shell) because the only news i could find on these talks says that shell is one of the remaining companies still in negotiations with iran.

DP&L back in 2003-2005ish (forget when, exactly) had a bigger gain than this--it started off as like 1 penny, and within about a 7-10 week period, it was up to something like 27 cents.
A few people that I know kick themselves for not investing in it (as they were considering doing it).

I think MRS may have made up all the difference yesterday. Markets look like they're going to tank today. Think I'm going to buy LEH to cover my short late today and short AMD if the tech markets don't plummet too far. If they do plummet, I'm going to buy Nvidia.

I took some major hits today. My +32,000 has now turned into +140

How come I can only buy/sell so much in one day?
I sold nearly all my stocks except a few and bought some more, but it only sold so much and I ended up not being able to buy anything? WTH?
