You have to be a certified delegate from your local party unit to vote at the district convention. Non-delegates can show up to watch, but they cannot vote.

Did not know about the certified delegate thing. Lets hope we get a lot of those to show up then.

Twitter indicated that there were 450 delegates in attendance, which is an awesome turnout - hopeful that the presence of a liberty candidate on the Congressional primary ballot spurred attendance among our folks. I haven't heard anything on the outcome yet...

Ya know, maybe Virginia, like Oklahoma and Colorado could be a surprise to everyone. Expectations were SO LOW without campaigning by anybody before the primary.

This is like the Massachusetts situation. Paul people are grabbing the delegates bound to vote for Romney on the first ballot. We'll have to see if this continues and the Romney camp makes another "challenge".

Woot good job patriots!!! The first of what will hopefully be a long day of winning for Dr. Paul!

KUDOS to all my fellow Virginians who stood up for the cause of liberty today!

Urban Bowhunter ‏ @UrbanBowhunter
. @j3VOL @ronpaul takes 3 alternate RNC delegates and 3 delegates #sweep #VA6

this should be a 5 star thread!! people need to see ron winning all over the place!

These have been impressive grassroots wins. We probably spent more time on these forums strategizing about the Virgin Islands than Virginia. The GOP hierarchy there must be experiencing serious hat-chewing moments, after such unexpected outcomes!

North Carolina has been a game of inches... but we snagged a delegate or two in several conventions, and it's exciting to see be in the minority, and watch these narrow victories take place.

And even South Carolina and Georgia got a few out of the distict conventions. Newt leaving so many unpledged spots available, created a vacuum that Paulites were able to step into.

from the Conservative Virginian Connection (their words, my emphasis):

1 – Election Results at the Republican Sixth District Convention

Yesterday, 050512, the delegates from the many city and county Republican Committees met for their biannual convention at the Lexington High School. It pleases me very much to report the following winners:

- For the Chair of the 6th District the winner was

Wendell Walker

- For the at-large, 3-seat representation of the 6th District at the Virginia State Central Committee (the Board of Directors for the Virginia Republican Party) the three winners were

Georgia Alvis-Long (Or Georgia Long as she is being dubbed by all) – Augusta County

Mickey Mixon – Roanoke County

Zach Martin – Lynchburg

- For the Shenandoah Region Vice Chair of the 6th District the winner was

Matt Homer – Rockingham

- For the 6th district Delegates to the Republican Nation Convention in Tampa the winners were

Braedon Wilkerson – Lynchburg

Frank Landrey – Bedford

Joe Sonsmith – Shenandoah

-For the 6th District Alternate Delegates to the Republican National Convention in Tampa the winners were

Josiah Tillett – Lynchburg

Jonathan McMillian - Lynchburg

Bethany Lewin – Augusta County

- For the Presidential Elector the winner was

Jared Walczak – Rockingham

Obviously I am proud as punch for Georgia being the lead winner as a representative of the 6th District on the State Central Committee. But I am also very proud and enthused for the others because they overwhelmingly are Ron Paul and Tea Party People who have grown tired of politics-as-usual in Virginia and are determined to put a much more conservative way of thinking in control. This was no small effort on the part of many.

I most earnestly hope that wherever you live you will join your local Republican Committee and help keep the ball rolling with your enthusiasm, energy, and participation in this effort to return the Republican Party and our Republic to the fundamental support and thinking of the U. S. Constitution for a smaller, cheaper, and less imposing federal Government. The same goes for State and Local Government.

One final observation: If the enthusiasm and support for Karen Kwiatkowski when she made her speech to the Delegates at Lexington is any indication of how the Republican Primary will go in June then we may have a new person representing the 6th district in the U. S. Congress.
