You can't have a "right" to healthcare, without the power to force someone else into labor or service. There goes the 13th amendment.

My understanding is that Dr's are already required to see X% of freeloaders now.

Yep, first thing I did was call a family member who is a doctor and leans strongly left to give him the heads up. No surprise that he's softened on my libertarianism over the past couple of years, when he used to be outright hostile to it.

FYI last night at the Great Falls Grange debate, Democrat delegate candidate Kathleen Murphy said that since many doctors are not accepting medicaid and medicare patients, she advocates making it a legal requirement for those people to be accepted.

She did not recognize that the payments are inadequate to cover the doctors' costs. She also did not recognize there is a shortage of over 45,000 physicians now and that it is forecast to be 90,000 in a few years.

Democrats appear to want to make physicians slaves of the state, but Democrats don't admit they would just drive more doctors out of practice into retirement and other occupations. The Obamacare law and regulations are causing millions of people to lose their health insurance, drop many doctors and hospitals. The HHS internal forecast is 93 million Americans would lose their health insurance due to the Obamacare law and rules about adequacy of insurance.

This will result in two things: 1) older docs will retire when they realize that the costs of accepting Medicare/Medicaid/Obamacare are not worth it. 2) the best and the brightest of the younger docs will move into other areas of medicine for the same reasons. What this will leave us with is mediocre doctors and mediocre care..

It will be. People in this country have a virtually religious relationship to their doctors. This is like telling people they can't go to their favorite church, but have to go to another one assigned to them by the government.

It's inevitable that they will. Many doctors are essentially small businessmen and women. They own (or are partners in) their own practice, they hire employees, pay the rent, supplies, utilities, etc. If the costs of doing business get too high, then they, like any other small business, will close their doors.

And having nationalized student loans in the Obamacare Bill, and the high cost of becoming a doctor, future doctors will be more easily turned into indentured servants of the state. Want you loan forgiven? Do what we say.
