[VIDEO] The Truth About George Zimmerman and Trayvon Martin (Stefan Molyneux)

Anyone else think Stephan is full of it when he started psychobabbling on the relationship between corporal punishment and child violence? I grew up on it, everyone I knew growing up grew up on it, the greatest generation (US WWII fighters) grew up on it and yet they weren't as violent as the lot we have now. I guess he did not learn anything from his Karate bashing incident.

The "greatest generation" is a myth.

Read how they raped their way across France.

I agree with you completely. Molyneux is making a classic correlation vs causation error regarding corporal punishment. The idea that spanking is always to be avoided is a social belief which is pretty much exclusive to middle and upper class, well educated, relatively progressive people. Of course their statistics are going to be different from black people from the inner city or poor rural whites who frequently spank their children, that doesn't mean that spanking is the cause for those differences. He is guilty of lazy thinking and ignoring the numerous complex variables involved because doing so supports his preexisting assumptions regarding capital punishment.

I'd only suggest watching Molyneux's presentation on violence from last month. It is startlingly convincing. It's fairly long, though, so you'd need about an hour.

I feel sorry for people that feel they need to strike their children in order to make them suitable candidates for adulthood. How is it that there are countless people who oppose such abhorrent behavior and raise beautiful, vivacious, wonderful contributors to society?

I wonder of the violent offenders in the prison population the percentage that were "spanked". I bet the oligarchs, the aristocrats, and other assorted elite don't strike their children.

Let's crawl out of the mud on this one, people.

Great analysis, and this is going viral with almost 500,000 views already! Please continue to share this.

I did not watch the whole vid as it seemed the same ol' same 'ol but I do believe there are a few things that Molyneux missed in his "truth" presentation:

-The "robbery tool" found in Trayvon's stuff at school was a flathead screw driver. Every techie I know has one, myself included.
-The jewelry he had was never reported stolen and seems to be a non-issue.
-The 3rd ingredient for purple drank was not with Martin at the time of his death.
-Trayvon had no "drank" in his system, only traces of THC from marijuana, which can stay in the body for weeks.

-Zimmerman sued CNN for "editing his 911 tape" but had edited out the still-in-question "fuckin' coons" part when he presented the tape in court.
-Also edited out what seems to be him telling someone to watch his truck.
-A cousin came forth during the trial period and said that Zimmerman had molested her as a child for over 10 years.
-Zimmerman and his wife lied to the judge about their finances; said they were poor when the wife had just transferred $135K from one account to the other.
-State Attorney Angela B. Corey also said that Zimmerman had two passports, and the passport that he surrendered to the court at the April hearing was one that Zimmerman had reported stolen on March 8, 2004. That passport was valid until May 2012.

There are many inconsistencies in this "truth" telling but this is enough to think about for a while. Neither were saints but Martin is continually painted in a horrible light while Zimmerman is held up as a beacon of virtue with "facts" that aren't necessarily facts.

I agree with the others who said that the psycho-babble is a major weakness of the vid (and most of his work). I often get the impression that he just makes shit up WRT psychology.

Just to add a little to your post. Stephan somehow believes that just because something is legal to do, its OK for one to do it. Yes, it was very legal for Zimmerman to follow Travon at night time when people are naturally prone to be paranoid. Throughout his very detailed analysis, it never crossed his mind to ask if this whole event would have been avoided if George had just driven up on his truck to Travon and asked him a question.

With Steph, it was all Travon is a monster and he then soften the blow by tell his audience how it is not Travon's fault he turned out the way he did. When I look at this tragedy, I see so many things both of em could have done to avoid it. Starting with using common sense when following people at night to staying the fuck inside your house once you arrive home.

If you listen to his show at all, he attacks this argument and others similar to it hundreds of times.

The "greatest generation" was responsible for millions of deaths, the "greatest generation" used nuclear weapons, the "greatest generation" spawned a cesspool of entitled baby-boomers who are sucking this country dry, so I hardly think they weren't as violent as any other generation - perhaps they were more so. Just because you or I turned out reasonably well after being hit as children doesn't justify it. You could make the same argument for sexual abuse or any type of abuse for that matter. There is correlation between the child violence and adult violence and it seems statistically proven.

What type of thinking are you instilling in your child if you say, "don't hit other people otherwise I'll hit you as punishment!" It's illogical. And of course, they get whooped on the ass so they don't bear visible facial or body injuries - and it's a sick sort of shaming to hit someone on the rear, imo.

+1776, in honor of the real greatest generation instead of those imbeciles that got into a Depression and World War.
