[Video] Rand Paul speech at Drake University and takes questions from C-SPAN callers - 1/28

Caller asks about reducing the deficit, there's a bad connection, so Rand hears reduce the debt, and goes on with an awesome explanation of how you first eliminate the deficit by spending cuts, and then make further cuts to generates actual surpluses (imagine that!) to pay down the debt. Anybody watching that (including the caller) just realized that this guy, who's actually thinking about the mechanics of zeroing the deficit and paying off the debt (as opposed to vague platitudes), is the only fiscal conservative in the race.

I didn't see a pan of the whole room, but maybe 200 or so.

It was totally packed, standing room only, but it wasn't a huge room.

I'd say 4-500 people. There's about 5000 students at the college, so getting a 1/10 turnout is pretty good.

He's giving an interview on the CSPAN bus now, though I think I'm watching a replay.

Check the caller question about Israel around 20:00 in the Open Phones segment, Rand has really sharpened his response regarding the need for stability in the region.

is there video of the questions after the speech? I missed that

The language he used at the end was very powerful! Parts of it directly from the latest great CAV video/ads. (Which again is from is announcement speech) I think we will hear a lot of it again in the debate. Great to see him directly telling the voters to caucus for him in a forceful and impactful way! (not just "I hope you'll consider my candidacy"-stuff)

DAMN! The opening part of the video gave me chills! (Haven't seen the rest yet.) Very much like Reagan's "A time for choosing" speech.. Completely awesome.

A new stump speech, right at perfect time. I approve (so far). Only 5 minutes in.

Definitely. Also the energy in the room is amazing. There's a lot of caucus going students in there I'd say... They've got friends and family.

I finally had a chance to watch this; wow! I had chills; it reminded me of JFK in the 60's in terms of the oratory and power of the speech. I only wish somehow he could do this at the debates, but the format is just not able to accommodate this..so powerful!

Rand can definitely use some of those lines in an opening statement and closing statement while adding such message and lines in the middle of the debate. He might have been practicing those lines in such speech for tonight since it was relatively new...
