Watched the extended interview. It appears they only cut out the part where Rand was in agreement about mandatory drug sentencing, and that got the largest applause of the night. The interview time itself was extremely short for The Daily Show. Sometimes guests get two full segments live, with a third extended segment online. There really wasn't an additional segment online, just an extra minute or two of a somewhat short guest appearance for the show.

As far as the bias of Oliver, it was evident with the first two things he said, "that's the first lie", which got a slight laugh, and "you left all of your contempt on the field", which was greated by crickets from the audience. That pretty much put cold water on his snark.

It seemed that the Daily Show itself wrote the interview the same way they would if John Stewart was there. In other words, sticking with a relevant subject. Oliver just added a little of his personal bias. My biggest reason for caution was that Oliver's personal views could have possibly influenced the show into a dirt-fest, hitting him with a variety attacks, attempting to generate a scandal, like Maddow has done in the past. (As Lou Dobbs basically did to Nancy Mace last week).

The dinosaur analogy was poignant and hard-hitting.

I liked it, but I think it will be a huge turnoff to more moderate liberal that maybe he could attract.

Can't watch it now, but as far as the extended interview goes, TDS does this with all their high profile guests. You should watch Stewart interview Judge Nap- the Judge was so surprised that Stewart wanted to interview him more and put it online.

Not bad. He did benefit from Oliver not being a shark. Rand was able to speak. The shark hosts would have been interrupting him the whole time and not given him more than 10 seconds to speak at a time.

The best idea that Rand put out there is that it's going to cost young people money. Many people still believe that Obamacare is free.

Unfortunately, it seems that most young people--especially the type that watch The Daily Show, who are college aged--don't care about money. They mostly live in a world free of financial responsibility. When they hear people say, "it's going to cost more, but it's worth it because more poor people will live!" it tugs at their heartstrings more than their purse-strings. Even if they hear Rand and come to the conclusion that he's right, factually, and that it will cost people more money, will they really care enough to change their opinions? I'm not optimistic that they will; their misplaced compassion will have them believe the benefits of Obamacare will be worth the heavy cost.

As far as the actual content, it is frustrating that Oliver kept talking about the need for health insurance. We don't need insurance, we need affordable health-care. They constantly equate insurance, pre-paid medical, and the care itself. Oliver doesn't even know that he is being a corporatist tool.

When there is reasonably priced medical care, no insurance is required. This whole "problem" is the result of the rise of the insurance-government complex over the past 40 years.

Yeah, that just removes them one more layer away from actual costs. Parents (or government) pays insurance, insurance pays medical corporation.

We can probably assume that Rand's point is going to have the biggest impact on those who actually pay for their own insurance costs.

This interview is pure gold for the conservative grassroots.

Rand went into the proverbial 'lion's den' and didn't so much as blink when asked to defend explain his position. What's more, his defense was (what older conservative writers like ) could easily describe as "Reagan-esque" in how confidently/non-defensively, clearly and persuasively he explained why obamacare is bad, why a conservative solution would be better and how a conservative solution/alternative would work.

Stellar performance by Rand. I love how he deduces seemingly complex issues (to liberals and the ignorant masses) into delicious, nougat-filled, educational tidbits.

The comments for the extended video on the Daily Show site are (predictably, I guess) unimpressed with Dr. Paul's performance.

I am curious as to the $15K number that Dr. Paul threw out for young folks' premiums. Can anyone enlighten me? Unless perhaps he means this, which smacks a bit apples to oranges...
