Rand was strong on Clinton's emails and trust. He was strong on Benghazi.

Rand was weak on Trump by impying that Trump is against diversity. Trump has said no such thing. In fact, Trump is for diversity. I got the feeling that Rand was pushing the old and failed 'big tent' branding for the GOP. He needs to focus on principle and policy while ignoring political correctness and the race-baiting term of 'diversity.'

Rand over simplified the trade issue by appearing to blame it all on the tax code. He ignores the bad trade deals misnamed as 'free' trade.

Rand's flat tax rate is too high. 14.5%?! Why so high? Where is the talk of reducing the size and cost of government as Ron did very successfully?

Fantastic, much better than the FOX interview, A+

Rand killed it on his tax plan (emphasized that he eliminates the payroll tax which is by far the biggest selling point, and which is generally being ignored by the media [who just mention that it's a flat tax]), and even more so on Planned Parenthood. That's obviously his wheelhouse, being a doctor, you can see the passion in his face. If I see a similar performance in the debates, I'm going to be very happy.

This host was also much more fair than Wallace.

If he had kept the payroll tax in place then his flat tax rate would've been 6.85%, which is far lower than any other Republican as ever proposed. Ron produced a budget that only made the Bush tax cuts permanent and didn't actually cut any taxes at all.

So if your total cost to an employer was 100k, the government would get 15k. Rand eliminates your 15k contribution but if you make 100k and spend all of your income you will pay $14,500 in consumption taxes. One major advantage of doing it this way is that people who don't pay taxes like a drug dealer or illegal immigrant would be forced to pay taxes when they purchase items.

Good explanation, but it's still too high, government is too big - too costly and much of it could be eliminated.

Deductions and write offs are an issue. In this example, the mortgage interest deduction should be eliminated. It subsidizes lenders and inflates the cost of loans. People should buy smarter and simply manage their amortization schedule better by prepaying some principle with each regularly scheduled payment as can be afforded. This saves tremendous amounts of interest and shortens the loan payback.

Charitable deductions should also be eliminated. Qualification and classification of charities, non-profits and so on adds to the bureaucratic morass and politicization of the tax code building complexity upon legalistic complexity. We see the problem very clearly with Planned Parenthood and the IRS targeting of the Tea Party.

Beyond the passion in his voice, Rand looks rested and energetic, a little tanned/athletic - maybe he's been enjoying some trout fishing or something (?)
