[Video] Rand Paul on ABC's This Week roundtable debating Paul Krugman and others

Watching Rand Paul promote Romney is going to make me puke.

It was a tough position for Rand. He was stuck with a couple of fast talking Democrat propagandists/partisans and his only help was from George Will, who isn't very animated either.

No, I have a problem with using it as a political/diplomatic tool. Just end it, all of it.

edit: (I can hardly believe you asked it that way, nice touch, go into politics much?).

Rand already proposed a budget that would end all foreign aid (including Israel). As you can probably guess the other senators didn't quite get on board with that.

Its always has been a diplomatic tool, lets not pretend it isnt. Rand's asking for public debate on it rather than some back channel secretive political tool. His legislation should be a slam dunk too, its tough to vote no on that one. If he can get the aid stopped, I dont' care his method.

"Weaponized Keynesianism" is a euphemism for number 7 on the following list of the symptoms of fascism. Check!

As we survey the whole scene in Italy, therefore, we may now name all the essential ingredients of fascism. It is a form of social organization

1. In which the government acknowledges no restraint upon its powers — totalitarianism.

2. In which this unrestrained government is managed by a dictator — the leadership principle.

3. In which the government is organized to operate the capitalist system and enable it to function-under an immense bureaucracy.

4. In which the economic society is organized on the syndicalist model, that is by producing groups formed into craft and professional categories under supervision of the state.

5. In which the government and the syndicalist organizations operate the capitalist society on the planned, autarchial principle.

6. In which the government holds itself responsible to provide the nation with adequate purchasing power by public spending and borrowing.

7. In which militarism is used as a conscious mechanism of government spending, and

8. In which imperialism is included as a policy inevitably flowing from militarism as well as other elements of fascism.

Wherever you find a nation using all of these devices you will know that this is a fascist nation. In proportion as any nation uses most of them you may assume it is tending in the direction of fascism.

J.T Flynn, As We Go Marching

I would add one more: The general public and the rulers are too dull to realize the fulfillment of the above symptoms.

It was obvious that George Snuffalufagus kept going to Rand and you can tell everyone hung onto Rand's words.

RON IS THE MAN!

Krugman on his blog and some lefty sites were attacking Rand yesterday for challenging Krugman's claim that the number or government employees actually decreased under Obama, but Rand is correct that the number of federal jobs increased under Obama, they are trying to throw in state and local numbers too though.

IIRC, Krugman tried to twist/worm his way out of it by saying the rate of increase was greater under bush than obama. Rand point blank asked him: yes or no, there are more federal government employees under obama than bush and krugman avoided answering.

from Sen. Paul's office:

"Professor Krugman argues statistics in his usual fashion: making them up or adding in irrelevant information to prove his predetermined point. On Sunday’s “This Week,” he and I were debating the size of government workforce under President Obama. The only logical number we could have been discussing was the number of federal workers. Since the last time I checked, Barack Obama was the President, not a mayor or governor.

Under President Obama, the federal workforce has grown by 143,000 according to the Labor Department . That’s a lot of new federal workers, though it pales in comparison to the enormous growth of government spending and debt accrued in his same Administration.

Yet Professor Krugman added in local and state workers to inflate this number, an irrelevant point at best. In fact, it was a disingenuous argument, which he then astonishingly gloated about making on his blog.

I prefer to stick to the facts – and the facts are, there are 143,000 more federal workers since President Obama took office. I urge Professor Krugman to join me in debating actual, relevant statistics."
