EXCLUSIVE: In ’02 Romney Touted D.C. Connections, Federal Funds

In a long-forgotten tape from the 2002 Massachusetts governor's race obtained by ABC News, Mitt Romney is seen touting his Washington connections and his ability to get millions of taxpayer dollars from the federal government.

"I am big believer in getting money where the money is," Romney says on the video, "The money is in Washington."

The video, which was surreptitiously shot by Democratic opponents of Romney on Oct. 16, 2002, shows him addressing a group called the New Bedford Industrial Foundation. The Power Point presentation he uses lists ways to improve economic development in Massachusetts, including "boost federal involvement."

"I want to go after every grant, every project, every department in Washington to assure that we are taking advantage of economic development opportunities," Romney tells the group.

Shhh the Romney sheeple might hear you. Let the media feed them as they usually do. This is anti-Romney in the media. We should milk this for all we can get. If it gains traction the other media outlets will want a piece of the action.

As soon as I read it I posted it to four primary RP Facebook walls. If everyone tweets it etc. it may gain momentum. Just make sure you provide the link to the source so that they get the feedback they will desire. Then they may air it more often and give it more attention.

Any Romney folks who are on the fence might jump ship. The more people in the other camps get disgruntle with their options the better it is for us. Low voter turn out for the other candidates will help our strong base.

Using a mild term like "flip-flopping" makes it sound like Romney did something cute.

The video shows he LIED. Flat out LIED.

The video shows Romney in a recent debate saying he ONLY took federal bailout money for transportation and security. The the video shows he took a FEDERAL BAILOUT bucks for a WHOLE BUNCH MORE. And WORSE, Romney is BRAGGING about it in a smirky way.

The way Romney talks about getting FEDERAL money from the DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION is especially damaging. Who wants to vote for somebody that is PROUD of ripping off the department of education? Even if you don't think there should be a Federal Department of Education, gloating about how you snagged every federal bailout not-nailed-down with a special emphasis on the dip into school kid's funds is creepy.

This is a prime example of what I've been saying all cycle, Romney is not electable. He can show strong in the nomination (maybe even win it) with his establishment backing, but in the general? He'd be dead man walking.

I don't think the video should go anywhere until the final text is fixed. Who the hell is "romeny"? The correct spelling is Romney.
