VA State Convention - June 16th, Lets organize

I am wondering, is there a point to showing up at this convention now? It seems a fait accompli that the Cuccinelli faction will walk away with everything. Is there anything contested where me showing up to cast a ballot would potentially make a difference?

I'm wondering the same thing, truth be told. I had to call the Republican office a couple days ago to confirm my delegate status because up to that point, I hadn't heard squat from anyone. Yesterday I received a confirmation packet in the mail from them with numerous application forms to register for VIP status, vendor application, program ad application, etc.... all of which had to be turned in by the 8th. I received them in the mail yesterday, the 13th. It Looks like they're doing everything possible to keep the state convention a business as usual Good Ol' Boy club meeting. That alone compels me to want to go and have a voice. I did get a robocall today from Donna Holt, saying that she's a "Ron Paul" Republican, but I don't think I'm eligible to vote for intra-party positions there since I didn't pay the $35 fee. If there's no real way me being there can affect the elections, is it worth dealing the the hassle of driving and parking in downtown Richmond at all?

Wrong. All convention delegates are eligible to vote on everything (unlike the NoVA district conventions earlier, I know).

Realistically, Blackwell and Terry will get re-elected to RNC because they're institutions, and we've got people on the establishment slate for convention delegate. I would show up just to be familiar with how it works for a convention that matters.

The snail mail packets are going out late, but all of that stuff has been available on the RPV website (which if you aren't looking for it, you won't find it, to be fair). And, I got an email from RPV with all of that information on May 23, so it's possible they were sending it out as they got information on the delegates from the local units. It's possible you have a crappy unit secretary.

I can't tell you! I would hope the delegates there are organized enough to know what they have to do, who they'll be voting for, what numbers (percentage-wise) that they have in the fight...

I still hold out some hope that, between then and now, Romney will reveal himself as the unelectable candidate that he is and we might still pick up the nomination- or maybe the fraud will become mainstream news? You never know...

but we DO still need the plurality of delegates in 5 states and we do not have that for sure yet. We could definitely use Virginia! You got the majority of the at large correct? Now you need 6 more to have the state? I think you should try!

It's called "running out a ground ball" in baseball. You put the ball in play and you're probably out. But you don't start walking back to the dugout immediately, you run for first. If you've come to play, that's what you do. Until you are actually thrown out, you're still in the game.

You'll meet new people and see the convention process from beginning to end. And if the shortstop drops the ball, you'll be there to get on base.

This so hard.

The face to face dialogue at state convention is very valuable. It comes in handy in future conventions - knowing who to tip off, who's advice to accept, etc. You're also creating a nucleus of people who will be the "veterans" in 2016 that are needed to explain to the new delegates how it all works.

yes, go ...we can win!

If anyone needs a ride to the convention I will be leaving the Arlington area around 7:30-8am. PM me.

Tea Party Senate candidate Jamie Radtke just endorsed Donna Holt, the liberty candidate. That certainly makes things a little bit interesting.

4000 plus delegates were registered and only 1600 or so showed up. They had weighted votes and Donna Holt only lost by two to four votes.
There were rows and rows of empty seats. There was a great after party where one hundred Ron Paul types showed up and we made announcements for future activities and even donated to a few Ron Paul Delegates and alternate to help with their travel costs.

Much progress was made, but much more can be accomplished.
