The United States is putting pressure on New Zealand to contribute more to the war in Afghanistan, warning Wellington that it should act as an ally in case it ever needs US military support.

President Barack Obama's new ambassador to Nato, Ivo Daalder, has told the Herald that New Zealand should be fighting the Taleban as a "partner and ally" in a Western effort.

Change we can believe it...we are sending you some of our special forces to help you with a war that is 8250 miles rom us. I've never been directly impacted by the Taleban. I can't remember when the Taleban was deemed a terrorist that the whole world should fight against. It's not even our own Emprie we are helping to build by sending troops there.

This is complete bullshit.

First of all, any future need that NZ may need will be decided by the interests of the US administration that is in power at that time. The US changes dramatically. If NZ needs our help, we will ONLY help if it is in our interest. And even if they do not support us, we would them if it was of benefit to us. So this argument is complete crap.

Secondly, you can bet that this article is smoothed over. You can bet we essentially threatened them with reprisal for not supporting us. Reprisal other than that mentioned in the article. There is so much that goes on behind the scenes and we are given a picture to keep us all ignorant.... which is exactly what this article is all about.
