Drone strikes kill militants in Yemen; Americans urged to leave

A pair of suspected U.S. drone strikes killed four al Qaeda militants in Yemen as the United States maintained a heightened security alert in the country and urged all Americans to leave immediately.

Security sources told CNN about the strikes but didn't offer additional details. A Yemeni official said four drone strikes have been carried out in the past 10 days.

None of those killed on Tuesday were among the 25 names on the country's most-wanted list, security officials said.

It is unclear whether the strikes were related to the added security alert in the country after U.S. officials intercepted a message from al Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri to operatives in Yemen telling them to "do something." The message was sent to Nasir al-Wuhayshi, the leader of al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, the terror group's Yemeni affiliate. U.S. intelligence believes al-Wuhayshi has recently been appointed the overall terror organization's No. 2 leader.

A US drone strike has killed at least four suspected al-Qaeda fighters in Yemen's eastern Marib province, a tribal source has told the AFP news agency.

The raid targeted their vehicle "and turned it into a ball of fire, immediately killing the four, all of whom are Yemeni", the source said on Tuesday.
About two dozen US diplomatic posts have been shuttered across the Middle East since Sunday after Washington said electronic intercepts of high-ranking al-Qaeda operatives signalled a major attack was imminent.
Among those killed in the drone strike was an al-Qaeda operative listed by Yemeni authorities on Monday, the source said.
Yemen's official Saba news agency confirmed "the death of four al-Qaeda militants in Wadi Abida in Marib".
The tribal source named two of the dead as Saleh al-Tays al-Waeli and Saleh Ali Guti.
Waeli figures on a government list of 25 al-Qaeda suspects wanted in connection with an alleged plot to launch a major attack before Ramadan ends and the Muslim Eid al-Fitr feast begins, either Thursday or Friday.
US media reported on Tuesday that intercepts between al-Qaeda chief Ayman Al-Zawahiri and the leader of the group's Yemen affiliate had sparked the closures as well as a global travel alert.
Later on Tuesday, the US state department ordered all non-essential staff to leave the country and told citizens to leave the country "immediately" due to "terrorism" concerns.
The New York Times said that the electronic communications last week revealed that Zawahiri had ordered Nasser al-Wuhayshi, the head of al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), to carry out an attack as early as this past Sunday.
Tuesday's drone strike is the fourth of its kind since July 28, bringing the number of people killed in such attacks in the last week to 17.

At least four people have been killed in airstrikes carried out by US assassination drones in Yemen’s central province of Ma’rib.

The fatalities occurred on Tuesday when two unmanned aircraft fired four missiles at two vehicles in Wadi Abidah district.

The attacks come as the United States has issued a terror alert in Arab and other countries last week, closing its embassies in several countries, including Yemen.

On August 1, four Yemenis were also killed in a US drone strike in the southeastern province of Hadramawt.

On July 30, a US killer drone targeted a car in the southern province of Shabwa. Three people were killed in the strike.

A similar airstrike in Yemen’s southern province of Abyan killed six people on July 27.

The United States often uses its assassination drones to hit targets in Yemen and some other countries, including Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Washington claims the drones target “militants,” but the facts on the ground show that civilians are frequently killed in the airstrikes.

According to the Washington-based New America Foundation, the US killer drone attacks in Yemen almost tripled in 2012.

These fuckers are bound and determined to start a world war.

This sounds like they're bound and determined to start a war. Telling Americans to get out? That sounds like the chatter that we heard before we "liberated" Iraq.
