Understanding Admiralty/Maritime and Common Law

I watched this lecture last night, and I found a lot of good food for thought. To increase my own understanding, I thought I'd post it here to get other people's opinions and understanding of what Admiralty/Maritime Law is all about.

The seventh amendment reads: “In suits at common law, where the value in controversy shall exceed twenty dollars, the right of trial by jury shall be preserved, and no fact tried by a jury, shall be otherwise reexamined in any court of the United States, than according to the rules of the common law.”

From what I understand, the gold fringed flag isn't actually the official flag of The United States of America, and that it pertains to us being in a current state of martial law. Since that's the case, I got to wondering how long this has been going on, so I decided to look around for some photos (or videos) of past presidents to see if I could see any of them pictured with the gold fringed flag. The oldest reference point I could find was a video of Regan's reaction to the shuttle explosion. Then it dawned on me to search for video's of past presidential state of the union addresses (specifically from the oval office) Would you believe that I couldn't find a single video of any of our president's addresses from the oval office? (except for Bush's) I found that to be rather odd. (ok, more than odd) After all, how many presidents have broadcast live from the oval office?

After doing more research, I can't help but get the feeling that maybe Bush was right.
Maybe "the Constitution is just a god damned piece of paper."

That's funny, this reminds me of those guys that were put in prison for a long time, I don't even remember what the whole story was, they were in a Militia or something, anyway, they were educated, when they were in court, one of the guys went off on all the injustice they were getting and even went off on the Judge and told him something like he should be ashamed having that Flag right there and gave him a legal speech, the Judge had one of those gold fringed Flags behind and to the right of him and then the Judge looked back at the flag and had one of the bailiffs take the Flag away and said the guy was correct and that it shouldn't have even been in a courtroom, that's how I learned about that gold Flag thing, I think that was about 10-15 yrs ago.... not sure.

Like I said before, watch the part with the cop out on the street and watch how he acts when he is asked a simple question.

Lawyers are going to be the last ones on the list that want you to learn this.
