MANCHESTER -- A young New Hampshire conservative activist has combined his political acumen and his expertise in web technology to play a key role in producing the first-ever Twitter presidential debate next week.

"The media and people who follow politics are fascinated by Twitter," said Andrew Hemingway of Bristol, who said he came up with the idea and concept for the debate as part of his work at his firm, which helps politicians maximize the communications power of Twitter.

"When the worlds of politics and Twitter collide, there's a massive explosion," Hemingway, a 29-year-old Granite State native and chairman of the grassroots New Hampshire Republican Liberty Caucus, said Thursday.

What are y'all talking about Ron isn't "going to be there"? It's a twitter debate, they just tweet the questions then everybody tweets back the answers. There is no physical place everyone has to be. If he wants he can just tweet along with everyone else.

  • 100% of the answers will be from people other than the actual candidates.
  • Answers will have to be less than 128 characters.
  • This is the dumbest thing ever.

I'm guessing he supports Johnson?

Pretty creative.

Don't see a lot of value in it for someone who gets in the regular debates though. I bet Johnson will be the only candidate tweeting his own stuff.

Worse, since Ron wouldn't be doing it himself, I don't want whomever writes his emails out there pretending to be Ron and answering for him in ANY kind of 'debate' where he might be later quoted as 'Ron'.

I remember he met Trump at at least a couple events in NH. He has worked for Thad McCotter but I don't know where he stands. I've only met Hemingway a couple times. He may be more conservative than the typical libertarian RLCNH person. My guess is that he would support someone like Rand Paul but there is a pretty decent chance he won't officially endorse anyone. Unless someone paid him to endorse someone, it wouldn't help him to endorse anyone.

I don't know if Hemingway runs the twitter account for RLCNH or not. If he does, maybe I'm wrong because the last thing from that account is this message, "New Hampshire Judge Caught On Video Ordering False Arrest http://goo.gl/gj1S8 #NH #NHPolitics." It's about a voluntaryist in Keene, NH that was arrested and charged with a fellow by an out of control judge. The voluntaryist did nothing wrong. Eventually, the charges were dropped and he was released from prison. A local cop even commented on how nice the voluntaryist was to the judge. But then again, Judge Napolitano even spread the video to his supporters, and Judge Napolitano seems to be a Ron Paul supporter.

Pretty creative.

Hemingway seems to think it will help the folks with few followers on twitter get more. If that is true, that would help Ron Paul since he doesn't have a ton of twitter followers.

TeaParty.net Twitter Debate Excludes Ron Paul?

Was he invited? Looks like Romney's not going to be there either. Pawlenty was invited, but hasn't confirmed that he will attend yet.

"TeaParty" .net Twitter debate on July 20th:

http://politics.blogs.foxnews.com/2011/07/15/gop-presidential-candidates-debate-twitter-sphere

The 90-minute debate will be hosted by a group called ‘TheTeaParty.Net.’ Organizers confirm Minnesota Congresswoman Michele Bachmann, Herman Cain, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, former New Mexico Gov. Gary Johnson, former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum and Michigan Congressman Thaddeus McCotter will participate.

People were discussing this and assuming his campaign didn't think it was helpful. I doubt it will really be campaigns tweeting. And if it is someone speaking 'for' Ron, and they respond wrong, we'd be stuck with that 'Ron statement'.

I have only heard of it here. I go on twitter and haven't heard of anyone discussing it there.

Just what we need, presidential debates minimized to 280character answers. perfect for a useless soundbyte debate. lame.

Ron Paul was invited but has not accepted.

This is from TheTeaParty.net's facebook:

Why is Ron Paul snubbing the first ever tea party presidential debate? TheTeaParty.net is hosting the historic debate on Wednesday July 20th from 3 pm to 4:30 pm eastern time. All major candidates have been invited and most have accepted except for Ron Paul. Why won't Ron Paul take questions from the American people?

Just because they put tea party in their name that makes it so? Hardly.

So now people are BEGGING Ron Paul to participate in their little "debates". What does that tell you guys?

lame, it only represents how our memory really is changing with internet use. we need sound bytes to now understand complex economics, and listening to backed up philosophy of the concept is too boring.

dr. paul probably wouldn't do it based on this fact that he fully understands his ideas and takes the time to explain them.

Facebook comments on that status are f-en unbelievable. People are so stupid. It pisses me off that there are people out there who actually research issues and fight for our Constitution, and then there are dumbasses who don't even know what they're doing and will vote for whatever their media source tells them to.

Unbelievable.

that it was set up by a Gary Johnson supporter?

Just a guess...

Someone said it was set up by a NH activist, and it makes sense that someone not in the other debates would benefit most from something like that.

I agree that 140 characters is an absurd way to 'debate' though.
