Turnout sparse as Virginians cast GOP primary ballots

Anyone have a sinking feeling this is going to be one of those races the media calls the very second it becomes 8:00 PM (or whatever)?

Seriously, if they get a 3% turnout in VA it's a great argument that Romney excites NO ONE enough to even put down their remote and go to the polls.

I live in a town of 25,000 in Virginia and I couldn't even tell you what a Romney sign or bumper sticker looks like. Seen about 10 RP signs and about 20 RP bumper stickers over the past couple of months but nothing for Romney. It must be only party hacks voting for him. My gf and I voted for him and the place was empty.

Turn out was low in TN too from what I can tell (not as low in Putnam County TN as it seems to be in VA, but low nonetheless). I was actually the first person at my precinct, first vote for my area and it was for Dr. Paul!

I have a good feeling from some of what I saw today. Perhaps the low turnout is due to a collapse of Romney support now that his weakness has begun to sink in? The aura of inevitability gone, what's the sale? The Gingrich and Santorum voters tactically lose by voting Romney, so they stay home or vote Paul. There's been almost no media since no battle was fought over the state.

If you're a soft Romney supporter (which is pretty much all his support), what's there to get you off the couch in this scenario? The Paul people I spoke to today were pretty enthusiastic, I saw no sign of any Romney support at all anywhere.

It has both. Of course the paper ballots are counted by a digital machine as well, but there's at least a hard record against which to check the result.

Just drove my friend to vote in Arlington...at noon, the person said 91 people voted in this polling place. Apparently there are 10,000 registered voters for that area. Only Ron Paul signs can be seen around the area. I didn't see one other sign Romney anywhere.

This is a little peculiar, I voted in Arlington too (at GMU) around 4pm and they either told me 90 or 91 people have voted there for the day.

NO WAY!!!! You guys are not gong to do this to me again!!!!!! No way!!!!!! Iowa, Maine, Nevada, Minnesota Washington, I had such high high hopes!!! I watched all the twitter feeds, got super excited and then crushed!!! On this super Tuesday I will sit back, with low hopes and then if we get any SUPRISES, I will go streaking around my neighborhood jumping for joy!!!!!!!!! Please plzzzzzzz plzzzzzzzzzzz let today be the day for SUPRISES and momentum for Ron Paul !!!!!! We all deserve it!!!!!!!!!!! Plzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzxx I beg of you!!!

Whatever you don't listen to the false hope offered by many in here. Most don't have a clue about winning although very faithful. They have all these crazy theories that never pan out.

Two states to watch for tonight are N. Dakota and Idaho. Maybe Alaska. If not first, a possible strong second or third.

We will come in second in VA though. :p

We will be dead last in GA with maybe if we are lucky 5% of the vote.

With such low turn out being reported, I doubt the media will have a big enough sample to even do an exit poll. :p

Although I will continue to support Ron Paul, and I will continue to donate, and I will continue to bust my but making phone calls and I am already a delegate, I will also continue to tell everyone I talk to to vote Ron Paul , from now on the only SUPRISES I'll get will be good ones!!!!!!! I'm going to expect the worst and hope for the best!!!!

Thank you Buzz Killington. You are right though about ND and Idaho being our best shots.

I totally agree! There are people on this forum that think GOTV is a joke and berate people who encourage others to get people to the polls.

It's just not that simple for many. I can say from my own experience that it is not. I spoke withmy neighbors, handed out literature, tried getting my friends to show up, my mother, inlaws.... And nada.
Ended up "carpooling" with my wife.

You can lead a horse to water....

That's what gives me confidence Ron Paul's results will exceed expectations. Romney "supporters" may think he has it in the bag and they don't need to go vote. Combine that with those who will vote for Ron Paul as a protest vote, as well as Democrats tinkering with the process, and this may turn out very good for us. Even a 60/40 loss would be a nice mental win. It would definitely shake up confidence in Romney's chances of winning the general.
