Turnout sparse as Virginians cast GOP primary ballots

Spotsylvania County ..

This is the form, correct?
This link has the info for 2012
http://rpv.org/node/1145

Filing Requirements
Candidates for the election or nomination at said mass meeting shall file a written statement by mail or in person, to Jane
Laughman, 9 Teton Dr., Fredericksburg, VA, which must be received not later than March 28, 2012 . Candidates for Unit
Chairman shall file a letter of intent to serve as chairman not later than 7:00 PM. Wednesday, March 1,2012 at the same
address above

You just have to write up a letter saying you want to be a delegate(note: call the chairman, I may be wrong and you may not need to pre-file to be a delegate, but will just have to attend the mass meeting).. I would copy a filing form for one of the other counties and modify it for Spotsylvania's info. Make sure to make a photocopy and get it signed/timestamped when you turn the original in!

You have a pretty long lead time too -- plenty of time to recruit friends/family!

If we GOTV we can do well. Grab your neighbors, grab anyone. People on the college campuses should be throwing parties for voters (you need an I Voted sticker or whatever they give out to attend), that really encourages people to vote.

Yes.

We should do those things.

But it's rare.

Does anyone know how many Virginia Voters cast Absentee Ballots ahead of today's election? I wonder if it is as small as today's turnout has been thus far.....

Both of my brothers cast absentee ballots for him :)

If Ron Paul wins Virginia I will donate $100.00 tomorrow and finds some way to max out ASAP after that.

Just got back... the polling place was empty. I asked how many people voted today and the number given was 65-70 - less than 10 voters per hour. As we were voting, I heard one of the election workers say "ooh look another voter" in a surprised tone (there was a woman walking up to the entrance).

1% turnout seems credible, although we've yet to see what the after-work turnout is. Every vote counts, turn them out.

- Virginia Democrats may imitate Michigan Democrats and support Paul to flummox Romney. "I know several VA D's voting for Paul today," tweeted this man. Further speculation from NRO's Jim Geraghty:

I live in a neighborhood I nicknamed Yuppie Acres in Alexandria, Virginia, a deep-blue spot in a deep-blue district of Virginia, represented in Congress for a long time by the infamous Jim Moran. My neighbors are wonderful people, but in 2008 the houses came with Obama yard signs conveniently pre-installed.

In 2009, when Bob McDonnell was winning Virginia by the largest margin of any Republican gubernatorial candidate ever, he won only 38 percent in this district and barely 37 percent in Alexandria City, although he did win 45 percent in my polling place.

Today is Super Tuesday, presidential primary day in Virginia, and there is no Democratic contest. As discussed earlier, the only names listed on the ballot are Mitt Romney and Ron Paul. There are no write-in options.

I was told I was the 60th voter at about 8:25 a.m. this morning, which seems a little high for the neighborhood. Way less than a “normal” primary day (with a competitive Democratic primary) or a general election, but significantly more than most other Republicans around the state have reported this morning.

That number could reflect Democrats crossing over.

Where are you located?

so if ron put in some time and effort we could've won virginia. something a lot of us said he should do but the campaign decided against it. groovy

So I tried to get my Obama-supporter neighbor - elderly man, a criminal defense lawyer - to vote for Paul in the primary. He said he wouldn't do it, that he had objections to Paul (but had better things to say about him than Romney) which he didn't readily articulate, but he did say that his granddaughter was wild over Ron Paul, which I thought was interesting. That's a conversation I'll likely be continuing sometime in the near future. Lesson learned, open that conversation earlier and there's more time to change minds.

NO WAY!!!! You guys are not gong to do this to me again!!!!!! No way!!!!!! Iowa, Maine, Nevada, Minnesota Washington, I had such high high hopes!!! I watched all the twitter feeds, got super excited and then crushed!!! On this super Tuesday I will sit back, with low hopes and then if we get any SUPRISES, I will go streaking around my neighborhood jumping for joy!!!!!!!!! Please plzzzzzzz plzzzzzzzzzzz let today be the day for SUPRISES and momentum for Ron Paul !!!!!! We all deserve it!!!!!!!!!!! Plzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzxx I beg of you!!!

If I remeber correctly he was polling like 70/30. You don't make up 21 points by campainging. The "leftovers" that we're getting from the Dem's wouldn't make up for the massive deficit he'd have to over come. This is a campaign of limited resources. I'm not defending some of their decisions but they are his.

Remember you're criticizing a campaing for someone you think is prepared to run a country. I'll take their word for it that they've done the right stuff

No one seems to be mentioning this, but even if Paul doesn't get 50%, he could potentially get the highest % of votes in any state, to date. Even 40% would be meaningful, and would make a good talking point with those who mistakenly think he's unelectable.

maybe. and if rp went there and his polls went up, then maybe romney would've gone there to counteract what rp did.
