Donald Trump proposes wall to protect golf resort in Ireland from rising seas

Donald Trump wants to build another huge wall, this time to keep out the rising seas threatening to swamp his luxury golf resort in Ireland.

The Republican presidential candidate has called climate change a "con job" and a "hoax." But in an application filed this month in County Clare, Ireland, the Trump International Golf Links and Hotel cites the threat of global warming in seeking a permit to build a nearly two-mile-long stone wall between it and the Atlantic Ocean. The beach in front of the 18th green is disappearing at a rate of about a yard each year.

Trump's application, first reported Monday by Politico, cites local regulations pertaining to "rising sea levels and increased storm frequency and wave energy associated with global warming." An attached environmental impact statement says that almost all the dunes in western Ireland are retreating "due to sea level rise and increased Atlantic storminess."

Trump campaign spokesman Alan Garten did not respond Monday to messages from The Associated Press seeking comment.

Trump, who has roiled the immigration debate by proposing to build a massive wall along the Mexican border, has repeatedly taken to Twitter to express skepticism that human activity is causing the world to warm, raising sea levels as the polar ice caps melt. He has also said he would seek to "renegotiate" the global accord to cut climate-warming carbon emissions agreed to by President Barack Obama in December.

"The concept of global warming was created by and for the Chinese in order to make U.S. manufacturing non-competitive," Trump tweeted in 2012.

"The entire country is FREEZING - we desperately need a heavy dose of global warming, and fast! Ice caps size reaches all time high," Trump tweeted in 2014.

Environmental groups pounced on the application as evidence of hypocrisy.

"Donald Trump clearly cares more about the fate of his golf courses than the health of the millions of families already affected by the climate crisis," said Adam Beitman, a spokesman for the Sierra Club.

Whoa, zippy, let's slow down a bit here and think about this for a minute.

First of all, the article uses horrible language to describe what we are actually discussing here.

The phrase climate change is redundant - the climate changes every millisecond, or any measurable amount of time for that matter. Study of the climate necessarily indicates you are studying a changing climate, so climate change is a term that should probably never really even be used - but if it is, it certainly shouldn't be used as the name of a theory which believes that man causes global warming. Because then you have people who they claim to be "climate change deniers" which just isn't true. Nobody denies the climate changes, yet people are labelled with this ridiculous term.

What Trump thinks is a hoax is that man's release of CO2 into the atmosphere has or will cause significant increase in temperatures as many people claim or believe. That doesn't mean people don't think that the temperatures may be increasing, it just means that they don't think man is a major cause. They may believe that temperatures are rising due to natural causes, perhaps at a slower rate than what many climate organizations report since they use altered climate data rather than raw climate data - and that altered data suggests that they may be exaggerating the amount of warming that has occurred.

So the fact is the average temperatures do appear to be increasing somewhat over the last century, and no matter the cause one could call this global warming.

So when Trump cites global warming as ONE of the reasons he needs to build a seawall at his golf course, that doesn't mean he is conceding that man is causing that warming.

If only climate scientists would have known to say "You won't be able to golf anymore," Republicans would have long ago signed onto every single globalist climate accord.

Well, which is it? Global warming and the sea is rising so he needs a wall or is it freezing and all a con by the Chinese to get American jobs?

Um, maybe you should actually read my post? I don't know how much more of a clear yet detailed explanation I can give.

Maybe you could try summarizing my post in your own words and that will help you understand? Post it here and I can correct any errors. I can give you a hint, the very last line of the post is a decent summary.

Like any issue, he will use whatever is convenient for him and supports what he wants to do. When he wants to protect his golf course, global warming is real. When he wants to appeal to conservative voters, it is a hoax from the Chinese.

So you didn't read my post... so pathetic.

I read your post including the last line, henceforth why I narrowed my question to you. So, skipping over the issue of causes by which you attempted to obfuscate (which Trump has not done btw since its the fault of the Chinese that the issue exists per his 2012 opinion) re-read the op, is the sea ice growing and no threat or melting and thus a threat to his golf course? Or is this another exaggeration which everyone should excuse because...Trump?

Agree. That makes sense.

Hold on a minute, "he will use whatever is convenient for him"? A little projection there ZippyJohn?

Like Mark Steyn says, ignore the Global Warming Fraud & build those billion $ Dutch coastal protection things regardless.

Please stop with the bullshit. He said he doesn't believe in man made global warming, he says there may be warming (natural) and it may cool at some point (natural).

Please read my first post, this isn't difficult to understand I don't know why posters like moostraks are so confused. There is some increase in global temperatures occurring, but it is exaggerated by the man-made global warming crowd and it has been warming since the mini-ice age that peaked around 1800... Right now we are at about median global temp for the last couple thousand years, there is nothing to be concerned about - but Trump's company saying that the beach erosion is being caused by global warming (not necessarily man made) is not hypocritical in any way. You guys make anti-Trump people look really bad and give more resolve for those who want to support Trump. I don't support him, so I really wish you guys would cut it the fuck out.

Sheesh.

Try to follow.

The climate has gone through cycles since the earth has been created.

The issue is whether man is significantly contributing to it.

Trump and most people with a brain say no.

Trump is satan, zippy is an archangel who is exposing the demons and extolling the FED.

I'm not confused and I am following apparently soooo since 2014 all those expanding ice caps he was crooning about then have melted and now are threatening his precious golf course.

As for who's to blame, Trump said it's the fault of the Chinese.;) I can read, how about you two?

Curious, I wonder what the wall might have to do with his whingeing about some wind mills. Same course I believe?
