The walk along the bottom of the wall is sloped toward the wall and there appears to be a trench along the the bottom of the wall.

Ukraine voted for independence in the 90s and created their own government when the Soviet Union collapsed.

The ethnic Russians in east Ukraine lost the vote and then they went to war against Ukraine.

They were effectively occupied by a foreign nation.

The ethnic Russians refused to assimilate into Ukraine and tried to force Ukraine to use their fake money.
