The USA initially took the Phillipines in the 20th century as a territory because otherwise Japan or Germany or Russia would have took it.

Imperial Japan even went on to invade it during WW2 when it was still a US territory.

Now China has been threatening to take it.

China put out its own map in the last couple decades that they call the 9 dash line.

Their claim is to expand their borders by claiming the entire South China Sea as China's territory to take it without firing a shot.

They started crashing into Phillipines fishing boats and building man made islands.

Phillipines took them to court and the court ruled that the territory China was occupying belonged to Phillipines and Obama intervened because we have a defense agreement with Phillipines and they promised Obama that they would leave the territory but they never left it.

I think Trump honestly wants to ban flag burning and put people who do it in jail for a year. I think he honestly opposes the SCOTUS decision that overturned flag burning bans, and when he said that he was determined to find some way around that, he meant it. I think that if he could stack the court with sycophant justices who will reverse that decision and uphold every EO he wants upheld, he wouldn't hesitate to do that. He has no concern at all about keeping his oath of office. To him the Constitution is an unfortunate hindrance to his agenda.

That's his motivation in this case.
