The Trump administration took its first step Monday toward ending federal funding of National Public Radio (NPR) and the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) — informing key members of Congress that it’s asking for them to eliminate “all” such spending while also codifying foreign aid cuts identified by Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency.

The major funding changes are contained in a long-awaited “rescissions” plan, obtained and first reported by The Post, that pitches a clawback of $1.1 billion appropriated for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) and $8.3 billion from USAID.

A memo drafted by White House budget director Russ Vought — and requested by GOP congressional leaders — accuses CPB of a “lengthy history of anti-conservative bias” and cites “waste, fraud, and abuse” at USAID.

Formal transmission of the plan to lawmakers will start a 45-day clock for the Republican-held House and Senate to either adopt or reject the blueprint, which the White House believes will pass — unlike President Trump’s 2018 rescission plan, which failed by one vote in the Senate.

Now we find out if he can make a deal with Congress or not. Something tells me he can and will -- let Congress keep the Global Warming Bullshit Networks in exchange for funding his bird flu jab or something.

You just have to fantasize how everything good he does is somehow actually bad.

LOL

That wasn't a fantasy. Trump hasn't come through on ninety- five percent of his promises. Figuring out what the excuse will be is an amusing game.

I'm surprised you allow yourself to see that I think this would be a good thing. You know no leftist would, like, ever. Is this the day you stop calling me a leftist?

Of course not. You'll just double down on your hypocrisy, as always.

Would be hilarious to see Massie and Rand vote no. They voted against trillions in cuts so why would they vote for 10 billion in cuts.

If the bill contains $20 billion more spending, like the last one did (an increase in debt despite the cuts), you'll get your wish. I'm glad you think drowning the nation in debt is hilarious -- for the moment. And I'm sure you're tickled pink that I don't.

PBS is the ONLY media outlet in the United States that is bound to objectivity and balance.

The Public Broadcasting Act of 1967 requires the CPB to operate with a "strict adherence to objectivity and balance in all programs or series of programs of a controversial nature". It also requires it to regularly review national programming for objectivity and balance, and to report on "its efforts to address concerns about objectivity and balance".

If PBS dies, bias and private interests will control literally ALL the media in the U.S.

It's easy to see you aren't here, or haven't been long. Bias is now the rule and not the exception with the CPB. APR treated us to a tour of every mediocre Ukrainian composer and Ukrainian orchestra ever. Everything on PBS from the travel shows to the painting shows mentions climate change.

If you want a network not influenced by the corporate realm you won't have any luck turning to a government completely controlled by the corporate realm. It isn't a hard concept.

You're mourning something that died during the Reagan administration.

That's when all the commercial networks didn't have to present both sides of an argument.
My point is that PBS is the only one which has to, by law. It is a public entity. It is still governed by its charter from 1967
because it is an entity unlike corporate media.

Sometimes you're so gullible. Yeah, man, and the CIA is forbidden by law from jacking with U.S. citizens or operating on U.S. soil.

The federal government obeys those laws about like cops obey speed limits. I'm telling you, Reagan gutted all that. I remember when he did it.

I am far from gullible. I'm talking about the law, not its implementation.

But anyway, I'm done with this. Yes, I like Lawrence Welk and English sitcoms and NOVA.

I bet you think gun control prevents shootings.

No, I think the school shootings were arranged by a person I don't feel like naming right now who was also involved in 911
and who made billions selling new security to schools.

Good, that means you don't apply the "It's illegal so it doesn't happen" nonsense to everything.

Governmnet has no business being involved in the media and there is 0% chance that government media will not be politicized and used to control the populace.

President Trump has proposed cutting foreign aid by 75%, slashing the State Department’s budget by 50%, and eliminating funding for the United Nations, NATO, and over 20 international organizations.

But if we cut the funding to NPR who's gonna tell us about the therapeutic benefits of basket weaving for African migrants?

In a stunning new development, President Trump has signed a sweeping executive order defunding National Public Radio (NPR) and Public Broadcasting Service (PBS), the Democrats’ taxpayer-funded leftist propaganda machines.

As The Gateway Pundit reported, the president previously called on Congress to defund the absurdly dishonest “news” organizations following a House Oversight DOGE subcommittee hearing, which exposed the stations’ already well-known bias and radical content. This includes documentaries about transvestites and transitioning, a documentary about “Racist Trees,” and so-called educational programming for young children, including toddlers, that featured a cross-dressing freak.

They have continued pushing false narratives, especially about the Trump Administration. Just this week, NPR, citing two anonymous sources, reported that two DOGE workers gained accounts on classified networks, used by the National Security Administration and the Department of Energy, and accessed nuclear secrets.

“This reporting is false. No DOGE personnel have accessed these NNSA systems. The two DOGE individuals in question worked within the agency for several days and departed DOE in February,” a Department of Energy spokesperson told NPR.

The order titled "Ending Taxpayer Subsidization of Biased Media" states, "National Public Radio (NPR) and the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) receive taxpayer funds through the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB). Unlike in 1967, when the CPB was established, today the media landscape is filled with abundant, diverse, and innovative news options. Government funding of news media in this environment is not only outdated and unnecessary but corrosive to the appearance of journalistic independence."

It continues, "At the very least, Americans have the right to expect that if their tax dollars fund public broadcasting at all, they fund only fair, accurate, unbiased, and nonpartisan news coverage. No media outlet has a constitutional right to taxpayer subsidies, and the Government is entitled to determine which categories of activities to subsidize."

CPB's subsidizing of NPR and PBS demonstrates a failure, the order says, to abide by its own principles of impartiality, which require that the agency not “contribute to or otherwise support any political party.” Citing this failure, the president directs the CPB Board of Directors to "cease Federal funding for NPR and PBS," both directly and indirectly.

It further directs CPB to ensure that recipients of the agency's funds do not use federal funds for NPR or PBS. All other agencies are also instructed to identify and terminate funding to the stations.

Additionally, the Department of Health and Human Services has been ordered to determine whether or not NPR and PBS are following the law as it relates to DEI and employment discrimination "on the grounds of race, color, religion, national origin, or sex.” If a finding of noncompliance is made, the Health and Human Services Secretary will be required to take "corrective action."

FYI

The entire Federal Government including the President EXPRESSLY has no authority to govern PBS or refuse to send it the amounts of funding which Congress (and the President, by signing the bill) have appropriated. The President cannot remove PBS board members he does not like, or seek to influence its educational content.

Trump has no chance to win in court with the EO. PBS has already won on District Court level and it will win all the way to Scotus.

Btw, agree or disagree with how well they meet the requirement, but PBS is the ONLY media outlet in the country that is required by its charter to produce only bias-free content. All others can be fully biased with no repurcussions since the repeal of the Fairness Doctrine in 1987.

Trump's opening lines in his EO make it perfectly clear that he believes PBS should not exist at all.
