Trump playing ‘Born in the USA’ at rallies in jab at Cruz

Not a fan of snake oil salesman Ted Cruz but quite a crafty artist is this Trump dude in his birther campaign who had earlier also targetted historic leader-in-chief:

Trump playing ‘Born in the USA’ at rallies in jab at Cruz

After days of poking and prodding Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) for his Canadian birth, Donald Trump is playing Bruce Springsteen’s “Born in the U.S.A” at his rallies, according to The Washington Post.

The Republican primary front-runner has questioned whether Cruz, who was born to an American mother and Cuban father in Calgary, is allowed to serve as commander in chief.“It’s not a settled matter,” Trump said at an Iowa rally last week. “He was born in Canada. And I say to Ted, and as a Republican I say it, because I think it’s very important, you gotta get it straightened out.”
Cruz has maintained that he is eligible to serve as president, pointing to the distinction between naturalized and natural-born citizens.
Although “Born in the U.S.A.” takes a shot at Cruz, the song is an odd choice for a presidential candidate campaigning on pro-America sentiment.

In other news, Cruz has been made to feel very bad for asking Trump to play "New York, New York" after Trump said many New Yorkers were offended citing resilient NY spirit in aftermath of 9/11 WTC tragedy.

Your Move, Cruz: Trump Rents Iowa Theater for '13 Hours' Screening

After trading blows in the GOP presidential primary debate, The Donald ups the ante to hold off his nearest challenger.

Donald Trump is reportedly offering supporters free tickets to see "13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi," an action movie based on the attacks on the U.S. consulate in Libya in 2012.

By Joseph P. Williams Jan. 15, 2016

After Cruz plugged the movie's Friday release in Thursday night's GOP debate, calling it a story of brave Americans "and the politicians that abandoned them," The Des Moines Register reports that Trump has rented space at a movie theater in that city and will screen the flick for free, just weeks ahead of the Iowa caucuses.
"Mr. Trump would like all Americans to know the truth about what happened at Benghazi," the GOP presidential candidate's Iowa co-chair, Tana Goertz, said Thursday night, according to the Register. "The theater is paid for. The tickets are paid for. You just have to RSVP."

I'm sure Springsteen's liaryers are already filing a cease and desist.

It could happen, not anything in news yet.

Knowing Trump, he would probably argue that Mr. Springsteen's sone is so wonderful, so amazing that it is now a national anthem/treasure.

funny because he snubbed springstein in 2012 for playing live at obama events

Yea BS used to perform at O's rallies. Not sure if he is ashamed now.

Maybe Trump is paying royalties.

Every time the I've seen the media pass around a story about an artist being upset over a song being used in a campaign, the campaign was always paying the licensing fees.

Then it would seem like they would have zero to complain about.

The venue is paying the royalties. Any arena, stadium, restaurant, bar, or place that hosts public concerts or events is going to have a blanket license from the BMI and ASCAP. As long as you are at a venue with a blanket license, you can play anything in the ASCAP repertory. You don't need any special permission and the royalty is covered by the flat annual fee the venue is paying. The only time you would need permission and have to work out a royalty payment is if you wanted to use music at a venue (like say a private home or a tiny small town meeting hall) that doesn't already have a blanket license.

Sometimes when an artist complains, campaigns will stop using the song on their own despite the fact they are legally entitled to play it. Romney did that. But I can't imagine Trump allowing some musician to boss him around.

That won't last. Didn't W get a cease and desist for using the song? Or was it HW?

It was Reagan. They were trying to coopt all "USA USA USA" sorts of images. But Born in the USA is actually a critique of how veterans were being treated.

They can only bring litigation if you use it in a commercial or play it at a venue without a blanket license. 99% of the venues Trump appears at are going to have a blanket license. He will continue to do as he pleases and play whatever he wants.

Good info for all budding political rally planners :)

EM.

Then this song may server another Trump message as he has been saying at his rallies that vets are not being treated well.
