John Tate and Jesse Benton President Trump granted John Tate and Jesse Benton full pardons. This action is supported by Senator Rand Paul and Lee Goodman, former Chairman of the Federal Election Commission. Both Mr. Tate and Mr. Benton were convicted based on indirect campaign payments to a state Senator. According to Mr. Goodman, the reporting law violated was unclear and not well established at the time. Each individual received 6 months home confinement and 2 years’ probation.

Jesse Benton pardoned.

Two men convicted of multiple federal offenses stemming from a bribery plot during the 2012 Iowa Republican caucus received pardons from President Donald Trump late Wednesday.

John Tate and Jesse Benton were convicted in 2016 of various public corruption charges for paying an Iowa state senator to switch his endorsement to then-U.S. Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, during his 2012 presidential campaign, days before the first-in-the-nation nominating event. Sen. Kent Sorenson, an Indianola Republican, had been a supporter of U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn.

Tate and Benton were convicted by a federal jury in Des Moines in May 2016. Each served six months home confinement and two years’ probation.

This sound familiar to anyone?

I dont recall this at all.

Probation and home confinement? How bad could it have been?

The COVID lockdowns are worse.

Trump pardoned the wrong people.
He should have pardoned Assange,Snowden & Kyle Rittenhouse & not Charles Kushner,Blackwaters contractors or Jesse Benton.

Agree. Trump would had gained some points with me if he had pardoned Assange,Snowden & Rittenhouse.

Of course they deserved a pardon. More are coming, and I suspect those you mentioned will be among them.

He can only pardon those accused of federal offenses so unfortunately Kyle is excluded.

Can someone educate me on the why of this?

Meaning, if the sentence is served and past....does the pardon merely act as a spring cleaning of their criminal records? I understand that federal convictions result is loss of rights such as the right to vote and to arms, but the convictions weren't violent in nature and there are umpteen ways to "reclaim" those rights. Please note....I am not saying I support the revocation of rights, because I don't. Merely saying that those rights could have easily been re-established in the time frame since their sentences were completed.

Convictions stay on your record for all of your life. So- usually no company will hire you, many regular life-opportunities are no longer available.

Thanks. That's one possibility I was thinking, but wasn't sure if I was missing something.
