US Army preparing biggest European deployment in years
AFP News
9 December 2019

The US Army is planning its biggest deployment of troops to Europe in 25 years, with 20,000 troops slated to take part in a massive force projection exercise at a time of increasingly adversarial relations with Russia.

General Christopher Cavoli, the commander of US ground forces in Europe, said 20,000 US-based troops will deploy next year to Europe where they will join some 9,000 other US soldiers already stationed there.

Some 37,000 troops will then take part in exercises across 10 European countries from May to June, he told reporters at the Pentagon.

The US-based forces will begin flowing in in February, moving 13,000 pieces of equipment, including tanks, artillery and transport vehicles, across 2,500 miles (4,000 kilometers), he said.

That will be a daunting logistical challenge as railroads in former Soviet countries have smaller gauges than western European countries and their bridges are not built to carry the weight of a 70-ton Abrams tank.

The Defender-Europe 20 exercise, as it is dubbed, marks a strategic turning point after years of US military cutbacks in post-Cold War Europe.

While Cavoli did not single out Russia as the focus, he said its annexation of Crimea in 2014 changed everything.

The aim is to "demonstrate the US military's ability to quickly deploy a large force to support NATO and respond to any crisis," he said.

"Our ability as an army to project power is absolutely fundamental to anything that we would get done," he said.

The deep state made him do it

This was announced in October. Nothing new. https://finabel.org/defender-europe-20-an-exercise-in-interoperability/

On 7 October, U.S. European Command (USEUCOM) officially announced what will be the largest deployment of U.S.-based land forces to Europe for an exercise in 25 years. The exercise, Defender-Europe 20, will be Europe’s third-largest since the Cold War, with over 37,000 service members and eighteen countries participating. The U.S. contingent will operate in conjunction with its European and NATO allies in activities focused on strengthening readiness and interoperability, showing recognition amongst the countries that capability in partnership is essential.

Military exercises in Europe happen regularly.

SO what if I knew about it and some few others did. It is getting closer so expect more talk.

The President didn't even have the common decency to inform the American public with any kind of statement or anything.
Our media won't even debate about the necessity of it.
The Army posting it on a website nobody reads is not an "announcement" for something of this magnitude.

Did you see the true numbers on equipment in the article (being shipped from the US) is 37k plus the 13k already there.

Trump doesn't want the public to know what he is doing militarily. He talks about bringing troops home but sends more. He ordered the military to stop reporting casualty figures including for civilians in war zones. He turned the drone program over to the CIA so they would not have to report what they do or to ask for permission to attack a given target. Not surprisingly, drone attacks surged. We will be out of Afghanistan "soon". We will be out of Syria in 30 days (that was a year ago).
