Trump: Navy SEAL Death in Yemen "Not My fault"

Seals call the shots on the ground. Not the general, not the commander in the bunker, not the intel team in theater, not the coc.

Yes Trump green lighted the missions, but to cast blame for deaths in a military operation? What do you expect?

Trump's gonna be a war monger type president unless enough anti-war conservatives holler at him and of course we can count on the left to put on their anti-war smocks.

Can't blame Trump for the individual death, but sure as hell can blame him for not putting a freeze on the war machine that spawns terrorism.

Trump is malleable to the people. The time for people to form anti-political pro-freedom issue coalitions have never been more ripe.

The General, the "bunker commander," the "intel team." And at the top the president. Who should really spend, at the very least, 24 hrs. going over intelligence. Questioning it.
If you are going to take on the mantle of "Commander-in-Chief" Then you better check the shit out.

In his mind, he has probably taken down ISIS leadership already.

The father of Navy SEAL William "Ryan" Owens did not want to meet President Donald Trump when his son's body was returned to the U.S. In an interview with the Miami Herald, Bill Owens said his "conscience" wouldn't let him greet the president, who'd approved the raid in Yemen that led to Owens' death less than a week into the Trump presidency.

Instead of a handshake from the president, Owens wants answers.

“I want an investigation. … The government owes my son an investigation,” Bill Owens told the Miami Herald. “Don’t hide behind my son’s death to prevent an investigation."

Trump and White House aides have hailed the operation as a success, saying despite the loss of life it garnered important intelligence information. The administration has blasted critics of the mission, saying their criticism dishonors Owens' life. At least 29 civilians, including the 8-year-old daughter of Al-Qeada propagandist Anwar Al Awlaki, were killed during the Jan. 28 raid. Several officials told the New York Times the raid was doomed from the start.

In the interview with the Herald, Owens expressed concerns about the president's decision-making process.

“Why at this time did there have to be this stupid mission when it wasn’t even barely a week into his administration? Why? For two years prior, there were no boots on the ground in Yemen — everything was missiles and drones — because there was not a target worth one American life. Now, all of a sudden we had to make this grand display?’’ he said.

You know, if this is what it means to be President, I could never do it. If I were trump, after learning that I'd just killed all those kids, I'd just have to go on live TV and say "Listen, I didn't realize this was going to happen. Sorry. I'm going to let Mike Pence have it now. Good luck everybody." And then I'd commit all of my billions to rescuing refugee children and lobbying for a non-interventionist foreign policy.

They must give the POTUS some potent drugs so that he can sleep at night, keep his composure and exhibit some level of self-esteem in subsequent public appearances.

Then as a veteran when the five time draft dodger stated the military would kill the families if he ordered them it made me see red.
How many privileged kids from wealthy families do you know that serve in dangerous military positions?

If you were wealthy enough, would you pull a few strings to keep your kids out of the Middle East? I sure would.

While I dont like hearing about any of our KIA's, soldiers volunteer and must be aware of their occupational hazards. The women and children, aka collaterals, do not sign up. To me, this is the true tragedy here. Again, I think its very unfortunate that we'd lost a soldier, but to lose one of our military personnel while killing innocent civilians is the bigger issue in my mind. Technology gives us no excuse for these kinds of fkups, and they happen ALL THE TIME! JSOC has given the president unchecked power to wage war all over the planet - it was the American people who allowed that to happen.

Also, its quite typical for most at any executive level to distribute failures while claiming individual success. Pretty much every president in modern history has done that, and nearly every corporate executive does that. Trump is no different...

...if i was wealthy enough i'd use my money to keep the goddamned fool republican warmongers for whom you shill from getting anywhere near public office, trumpster!..

...your ideas sir are repugnant to any honest notion of 'liberty'...;)

One of the worst excuses I've ever heard for irresponsible interventionist meddling. $250M spent on the raid. 15 women and children dead. No significant intelligence gained. To what "America First" objective should we attribute this mission?

Excuse? Nope, it's a simple fact. Sign up to be a SEAL, and there's a fair chance you are going to have to kill and just might be killed.

Of course. But are you okay with the trump action? (Or Obama or the generals or whoever's fault it was)

As you've noted before, trump doesn't give away his strategy to his enemies. Are you okay with women and children dying in his game of 4d chess?

Ok it's not his fault, except when it's time to cash in on some war glory using a the death of a sailor. Shameful. A loser not a leader. He never went to fight, he was scared, he does not have what it takes to win a fight, a whimp.

I personally don't believe much of anything that the news tells me, so I really feel rather ignorant about the whole business to be honest. As for our involvement in the middle east in general though, I am opposed to it. Meddling and attempts at nation building are proving time and time again to be detrimental to everyone involved. More blow-back and grief....:(
My comments about Trump's strategy was intended to support our continuance of hostilities.

The difference being I wouldn't be voting for the guy that ordered the mission with no review, while tweeting for hours at all times of the day and night about how big his inauguration crowd numbers were. If it was a routine military mission that was going down no matter who was president it would be slightly different. The fucker should have taken his tweeting how great am I time to review the goddamned mission. The blood is on the fuckers hands and

Reagan's speech about Iran contra.

My fellow Americans, I've thought long and often about how to explain to you what I intended to accomplish, but I respect you too much to make excuses. The fact of the matter is that there's nothing I can say that will make the situation right. I was stubborn in my pursuit of a policy that went astray....

Yet the buck does not stop with Admiral Poindexter, as he stated in his testimony; it stops with me. I am the one who is ultimately accountable to the American people.
