Or these misguided idiots that built an upscale coffee house in some reeking CA ghetto, only to, literally, have shit flung at them for creating jobs and investing in the neighborhood.

Fuck that...not another dollar...especially tax extorted dollars of mine.

Creating jobs is good, unless it comes at Taxpayer expense for non govt jobs / contracts.

Sad part is that this is also Amazon we are talking about, with pretty much Slave Labor Work Conditions, and we are so desperate we need to cater to them.

I think the better solution is a truly Free Market, where people can afford to open up their own businesses without being kept out of the market with Permits and Govt Intervention.

I live near 2 of those zones, and while one of the zones is a "Typical" ghetto area, the other is primarily tiny towns and agricultural, a very large plot of it.

I need to know exactly how this works, as in what qualifies.

The zoning they are using is cracked as well. One of the zones includes neighborhoods that rich people live in, like some of the most expensive areas in the town.... These broad census tracts are not useful for the intent of this program.

The headline, together with the misleading quote from Trump at the beginning makes this sound a lot worse than it looks like it is based on what's in the article.

When tax cuts are described as the same thing as government spending that's a pet peeve of mine. In the minds of a lot of people who talk like that (including Trump, as you can see here), it makes perfect sense, because to them all the money already belongs to the government, and whatever they let you keep is a gift from them to you.

According to The Baltimore Sun, the new program will offer breaks on capital gains taxes to investors in distressed zones... The Department of Treasury estimates that the Opportunity Zone legislation could attract over $100 billion in private investment, which will go a long way to spur on jobs and economic development.

Typical governmentspeak. If reducing the planned dollar devaluation ("cost of living") tax hike is a "tax cut", then clearly an actual tax cut is an " investment".

So reparations are baked into to our federal tax bill now. Got it.
