Trump EO terminating all regulations that delay timber lumber and other wood products

They're going to log Yosemite? The erosion across the nation a few years from now will turn all the rivers to mud lol.

INCREASING TIMBER PRODUCTION AND DESIGNATING AN EMERGENCY SITUATION ON NATIONAL FOREST SYSTEM LANDS

I am from the Pacific NW, a region bursting with trees. With proper management, timber can be grown and harvested like any other crop (with a 25-30 year rotation). In general, the government is a terrible manager, but criminally-incompetent government (ala the Biden admin) is the worst of all. To grow large, healthy forests, you need to maintain fire-breaks, including regular back-burning (controlled burns). Wilderness areas must not be too large and must be kept segregated from commercial timber stands, preferably by multiple fire-breaks, so that underbrush fires do not spread into commercial timber. Wilderness fires must be fought just like any other fire. Even when fighting the fires, there will be plenty of natural burn by the time it's put out, so there is no need to worry about the ecosystem being disrupted by an absence of wildfire. So, ignore the loony Left's cries that commercial timber somehow harms the forest or local fauna. If the forest is properly managed, there will always be plenty of habitat for the critters...

One of the problems there is that not all pulp wood is created equal - the US doesn't have enough of the right kind of pulp wood for toilet paper. You could probably have a replacement for the Canadian NBSK in 20 to 30 years if you made the planting effort now; but the Brazilian eucalyptus is probably not replaceable (hey, the environmentalists will be happy if the US stops importing it - no longer deforesting the Amazon). Better think about getting a bidet - oops, most are made outside the US aren't they. Sorry, tariffs again.

Watch out for MAGA if you're planning on a bidet, though. They're kind of sensitive about allowing them into the country.

One of the major arguments here is economics. The economics are not equal.

Even if all of the trade we did with other countries was subsidizing the price we pay for pulp it's not much.

The price we pay is still market driven by demand and the price the supplier is willing to part with it.

Obviously they make nothing if they don't have a buyer.

Trump is saying we have power in a trade relationship as the buyer.

That's why when Trump put tarrifs last time China lowered the price. They gave our companies in China tax breaks.

No, Trump is being told by some advisor(s), don't fuck with the toilet paper supply again.

Being an AI bot, you wouldn't understand.

There is no paper supply if our economy is unsustainable because we pay other countries higher prices for goods and services.

We as a country buy in bulk and pay more than any other country does because we have had bad people negotiating global trade.

Our economy is unsustainable because there's no interruption in the Fed's paper supply.

The status quo in trade only exists to fund middle men we don't need anymore.

Those are the ones screaming the most right now because Trump is firing them.

They would prefer if we kept propping them up forever, for us to be their slaves.
