Washington (AFP) - President Donald Trump on Sunday said that the elusive leader of the Islamic State group, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, had been killed, dying "like a dog" in a daring, nighttime raid by US special forces in northwest Syria.
Trump told the nation in a televised address from the White House that US forces killed a "large number" of Islamic State (IS) group militants during the raid, which culminated with Baghdadi cornered in a tunnel, where he detonated a suicide vest.

US military allegedly promoting ISIS in Afghanistan

There are allegations that weapons are often transferred to the territory of Afghanistan by helicopters without identifying insignia.

ET Bureau

The US military is allegedly allowing members of the ISIS, which have suffered serious defeats in Syria and neighboring Iraq, to infiltrate Afghanistan even as US is engaged with peace talks with Taliban for sake of stability in the landlocked country.

There are allegations that weapons are often transferred to the territory of Afghanistan by helicopters without identifying insignia. With the US and NATO fully controlling the skies over Afghanistan, there is every reason to believe they had a hand in that, or at least, did not hamper these flights, sources alleged.

In early April security officials in Afghanistan arrested a group of six media activists of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) from Kabul. Detained individuals were involved in pro-ISIS activities in social media networks, mainly spreading propagandas in Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Telegram.

Afghan officials arrested 10 other ISIS facilitators during a separate operation in Nangarhar province. 12,500 kilograms of explosives were seized during the same operation. Afghan Special Forces, ISIS and the Taliban are preparing for a three-way battle in eastern Afghanistan. ISIS started an offensive against the Taliban few weeks ago in Kunar province - a fight that has displaced more than 20,000 people.

USA and Brussels, however, deny any such role. USA said that the Islamic State terror group is losing its grip on parts of Afghanistan, slowly succumbing to pressure from U.S. and Afghan forces

Former Afghan President Hamid Karzai had once told al-Jazeera television news network that the US is colluding with Daesh in Afghanistan, and allowing the Takfiris to flourish in his conflict-stricken country.

Return of ISIS: Taliban fight ‘join ISIS in droves’ - ‘US is concerned’

ISIS is once again on the rise, with the terror group now boasting as many as 14,000 fighters in Afghanistan alone.

ISIS 'developing' with new caliphate claims expert

The Afghan branch of ISIS, known as Islamic State Khorasan (IS-K), is gaining ground as Taliban hardliners angry about peace negotiations with the US have “joined ISIS in droves”, according to experts. IS-K, formed in 2014 and known for its ruthless violence and gory propaganda videos on social media, is believed to be responsible for a surge in violence of ISIS violence this year. The attacks have raised fears of an ISIS resurgence even though the group was defeated in its Iraqi and Syrian heartlands earlier this year.

The Financial Times reported the expansion of the ISIS affiliate across Afghanistan has led to growing concern the group will create a haven for terrorists to organise violence abroad, recreating the conditions that allowed al-Qaeda to organise the 9/11 attacks on the US.

Afghanistan is seen as an important region to recuperate and plan their next phase of operations.

Jonathan Schroden, a military analyst at research organisation CNA, said: “The US is most concerned about IS-K as potentially the next big thing inside ISIS.”
Another expert said the ISIS affiliate is growing steadily in size, as new recruits are joining IS-K from across the Middle East.

CENTCOM chief warns 'very worrisome' ISIS presence in

June 14, 2019

A senior U.S. general says that ISIS remains a "very worrisome" presence in Afghanistan, but it is unlikely to mount an attack on the U.S. homeland because it is under strong military pressure.

Marine Gen. Frank McKenzie, who heads the U.S. Central Command, on June 12 told reporters the extremist group "in Afghanistan certainly has aspirations to attack the United States."
"It is our clear judgment that as long as we maintain pressure on them it will be hard for them to do that," he said.
McKenzie, whose Central Command has responsibility for managing U.S. military operations across the Middle East, spoke in Germany with reporters after completing an eight-day trip to Qatar, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Egypt.

The AP earlier this week quoted U.S. and Afghan security officials as saying the extremist group in Afghanistan is expanding its presence, recruiting new members, and plotting attacks on the United States and other Western countries.

A U.S. intelligence official based in Afghanistan told AP that a recent series of attacks in the Afghan capital, Kabul, were "practice runs" for even bigger attacks in Europe and the United States.

Still it is impressive especially considering that this major win happened few days after POTUS had announced US exit from Syria and almost all of US troops had left Syria except for a small force left behind to guard Syrian oil fields.

Risk is that isolationist critics might use this fact to argue that any large US troops presence in countries around the globe is not required to do big damage to ISIS there.

McCain was already dead. Hillary is still alive. CIA still exists.

Another alleged kill of another alleged leader without any evidence.

Adam Schiff is all pissed off because he wasn't notified of the raid beforehand.

You know why?

Because this wasn't the first time they tried to raid Baghdadi's complex. They've done it before, but every time he slips away. That is because Baghdadi is a CIA asset, and the deep state was tipping him off each time.

Trump gave the operation over to another branch of the military/intelligence composed entirely of white hats. He then informed no one in the deep state except for Adam Schiff. And sure enough, Baghdadi once again slipped away.

This time Trump didn't tell Schiff. This time Trump got Baghdadi. And now Trump knows that Adam Schiff had a line to Baghdadi, the head of ISIS, and was informing him of when they tried to capture him. Because he was a deep state CIA asset.

I know you don't believe all of this yet, but soon it will start making sense.

We're pulling out of Syria, but not until we stay some more and do some more righteous killin'
Due process is dead in America, so why not just murder people abroad
Is this the 5th or 6th time we've killed OSBL? :frog:

I've grow weary of all this 3D Chess

If we are lucky he is actually captured alive and the death is disinformation to make people like Schiff and Pelosi think he will not be able to talk.

True or false this announcement helps Trump sell the idea that we don't need to stay in Syria.

Such conspiracy theories have been going around for a while but any reliable MSM outlet has never confirmed such claims.

Also, if current POTUS as a candiadte was ablet o call Obama "founding father of ISIS" in 2016, why would he be keeping such details from public now in 2019 if what you stated is the case?

I guess the Russians weren't informed either.

Kill a leader, and he will simply be replaced with someone else.

That took all of 12 hrs to do.

Abdullah Qardash, sometimes spelled Karshesh and also known as Hajji Abdullah al-Afari, was said to have been nominated by Baghdadi in August to run the group's "Muslim affairs" in a widely-circulated statement attributed to ISIS' official Amaq news outlet, but never publicly endorsed by the group. Though little is known about the former Iraqi military officer who once served under late leader Saddam Hussein, one regional intelligence official asking not to be identified by name or nation told Newsweek that Qardash would have taken over Baghdadi's role—though it had lost much of its significance by the time of his demise.

I'm sure the CIA has informants in the Russian military who needed to be kept in the dark too.

I can't certify anything happened but this helps get us out of Syria either way.

So why did Trump thank the Russians? That makes no sense.
