Detainees in Afghan prisons are hung from the ceilings by their wrists, severely beaten with cables and wooden sticks, have their toenails torn off, are treated with electric shock, and even have their genitals twisted until they lose consciousness, according to a study released Monday by the United Nations.

The study, which covered 47 facilities sites in 22 provinces, found “a compelling pattern and practice of systematic torture and ill-treatment” during interrogation by US-supported Afghan authorities. Both US and NATO military trainers and counterparts have been working closely with these authorities, consistently supervising the detention facilities and funding their operations.

Torture is systematic in prisons in every middle East country I can think of off the top of my head , Egypt , Afghan , Saudi etc etc etc.

Most everybody cares. In fact the outrage I feel over this issue is one of my prime motivators. I suspect there is not much to say here over this issue, but thanks for providing a link I can use in debates elsewhere...

This is the Afghan, not particularily civilized , a country that tolerates grown men keeping young boys for sex is not going to think much about torture , just my opinion.

So this this has nothing to do with US involvement...

Yes , on a minimal scale .Think CIA . I want no involvement , spending etc . There will still be torture , in Saud it starts when you are arrested , until you confess. In Egypt , they sic dogs on you in the cell. That would have happened with or without involvement. I still want no involvement .

The CIA are currently torturing people in Somalia. That is not supported by me . Thousands will die there every day WITH or without UN , US involvement . Famine , war lords , killing other Somalians.

@oyarde

These countries you mention are all within the empire's sphere of influence, both overt and covert.

Just an observation , in the case of the Afghan , only , they may not be able to afford much of a prison system if we got out , so maybe , it would reduce torture .....
