In my opinion, this is what the general public looks for when they decide to pick a candidate....

1. Canidates party affiliation.

2. First impression. Most peoples first impression of Ron comes from the media (not good).

3. Presentation of ones self (how he looks, dresses, talks, acts, body language, ect.)

4. The ability to act like a leader. For most, that means being an asshole. (also not good for Ron).

5. The overall tone from the MSM on the canidate. This changes weekly. (also not good for Ron)

6. The canidates views on the Issues.

7. Electability (polls!)

8. Religion.

9. Canidates past (IE voting record)

10. How well he can bullshit his way through or expose others as frauds

Notice how low the issues are! Thats part of our problem, we put that as our number one priority.

Thats mine, whats yours?

edit... I bolded things that he needs to work on.

My perception is that the average "undecided" or "feeling it out" voter's mind goes through that list chronologically leading up to voting and then will be close to the process of voting by the time it comes to "Electability." It will then quaver between "Issues" and "Electability" and decide on a sort of melding of the two. Of course, "Electability" seems to hold the trump card there.

true

I would put electibility higher, but i generally agree. The issues should be higher. :(

The thing is, within parties or for independants, that impression, first or not, is quite significant. In that when you see a candidate embody sincere change for the better,
people like that. Huckabee seems very compassionate, as does obama.
I think along with their positions and other aspects of religions etc, people
like the fact that they are a refreshing change from the usual candidate.

They seem Human for once.

I think once people get to know paul they really do find both hisissues and the whole
air about him is very very positive.

Here's my list, with a weighting of 1-5 (not important - very important) and a slightly different order

Unfortunately I think the issues and the voting record are at the absolute bottom of the barrel in most peoples minds.

electability is the biggest fraud ever perpetrated on the american public.
