Tom calls out the coming nonsense.

One of my listeners -- a musician with a decent following -- recently wrote to tell me he was under siege for posting some libertarian videos.

People were calling him, you guessed it, a "Nazi."

Folks in my private Facebook group are giving him advice as I type this. It's horrifying. The guy has done nothing wrong.

But these days, everyone's a Nazi.

Folks, this is only going to get worse. You can sign all the petitions you like. You will not hold off the hysterics. If you're not for universal health care, you're a Nazi. If you're not for socialism, you're a Nazi. If you believe in private property, you're a Nazi.

If you're not repeating the latest fashionable slogan, you may not necessarily be a Nazi, but you're certainly pushing your luck.

My Tom Woods Show guest today, anarcho-capitalist architect Patrik Schumacher, has been compared to the Nazis for his opposition to urban planning -- even though Hitler favored urban planning.

That musician listener of mine is a perfectly decent person -- and the haters are trying to destroy him. Because he's a "Nazi."

Forget about the definitions of words. If those mattered, we wouldn't even be having this conversation.

This is a campaign to render good folks odious in the minds of others, to make any dissident seem pretty much the same as a torch-wielding "white supremacist," to ruin their reputations and destroy their careers. Fine distinctions -- you know, that super-tough distinction between libertarians and Nazis -- are not what those waging this campaign are known for.

It's pretty discouraging.

The best I can recommend is this: always have some kind of side hustle going on that in a pinch you could make into a full-time income.

That way, you don't have to worry that the wrong Tweet or Facebook post puts you in the poorhouse.

I wrote a book about how I myself make a living online, with no boss and nobody to answer to except those who enjoy my content. It's full of ideas on how to monetize what you do online.

You want to create Nazis?

Because this is how you create Nazis.

Well, there it is. It took less than twenty years for the internet to subject the whole nation to Godwin's Law.

That's faster than Hillary Clinton did socialized medicine!

Eternal September

http://www.catb.org/jargon/html/S/September-that-never-ended.html

September that never ended

All time since September 1993. One of the seasonal rhythms of the Usenet used to be the annual September influx of clueless newbies who, lacking any sense of netiquette, made a general nuisance of themselves. This coincided with people starting college, getting their first internet accounts, and plunging in without bothering to learn what was acceptable. These relatively small drafts of newbies could be assimilated within a few months. But in September 1993, AOL users became able to post to Usenet, nearly overwhelming the old-timers' capacity to acculturate them; to those who nostalgically recall the period before, this triggered an inexorable decline in the quality of discussions on newsgroups. Syn. eternal September. See also AOL!.

The man finally jumped the shark and planted the land. I say 10 out of 10

There is no river too deep, no mountain too climb, no obstacle too formidable to conquer, no reality too real to ignore when it comes to defending Trump? These people have done just about everything in their power to make an association between then and Nazi. This is not people labeling them Nazis, they are the ones making that association and they want us to notice it and talk.

I bet if Hitler came back to life, wore his Nazi uniform, and started doing his Nazi salute, Tom Woods to accuse anyone calling him a Nazi to be name calling.

You see, Trump is everywhere. These days you can not go about your business throughout the day without seeing Trump hiding somewhere. Some people might call me paranoid but I swear this is how it feels like.

Who mentioned Trump?

I did.

I have been watching him for a while now and he has been on an apologetic tour for Trump. I promise you this, if the story had been about anyone but Trump, say a Rand Paul, he would not have written this article. He cannot help himself at this point.

I could have sworn it was about Patrik Schumacher and some nameless musician.

Is there something between the lines of that particular article I'm having trouble reading?

Anyone who posts in this forum is a Nazi. Death's head and all.

Oh, that's not so. It just seems that way since you and your buddies invaded.

Trust me. You are a 'Nazi' per the ever-changing rules of society. Slow learner.

I be damned, I don't want to make any excuses cos this one is totally on me but I read the two bolded sentences plus the headline and assumed he was talking about the Unite the right marchers that happened over the weekend. Its OK, point finger and laugh at me cos I totally goofed on this one. Well, I will keep watching closely for when he jumps the shark.

I also did a search of Patrik Schumacher + Nazi to see who is harassing this man and it doesn't seem like anyone noteworthy(or anyone at all) is calling him a Nazi. Can anyone find the people name calling him? After reading the post, he makes it seem like there is some recent campaign to smear people on the right with the Nazi label.

GoldHydrogenTwenty above you seems to think it's so. For what that's worth.

I miss AuH2O. He was a good poster. AuH20 seemed to want us to not notice the difference, but he has always been quite the letdown.

Funny thing is, there was another good poster back then called the count, who disappeared around the same time. I miss him, too. Anyway, watching GoldHydrogenTwentybot and TheCountbot chase each other around is about as hard to take seriously as this The Trump and the Pressless soap opera they keep running.

Like I said before, if you haven't been called a Nazi, then maybe you need to reconsider your vocation in life.
