Today I got sent to a Free Speech Zone for carrying a Ron Paul sign

Did you have to pay to get in gates at this festival? Private groups are allowed to rent public space. If it was free, I would have considered pressing it further.

No entry fee. In fact there are no "gates" to enter this thing. It is taking over the whole middle of the town. There are just a few saw-horses set up to block vehicular traffic from driving into the designated area.

What if all streets were private? Wouldn't there be MORE free-speech zones? Wouldn't free-speech practically be phased out if each street was owned by a businees/company?

Quite a lot of 'freedoms' would be phased out by private roads. Visit a country with private roads sometime. Its not cool.

Marsh v. Alabama

This would likely apply in this circumstance as well. Pretty interesting precedent.

Before squaring off with the police it would behoove you to know all the laws/rules & regs from the local level up. And if this is the battle you really want to pour years of your life into.

I think the fact that there were even "free speech areas" at all means that the city knew they couldn't legally silence you like that. If they thought it was okay to keep you quiet then why have an area designated for it at all? I think this just shows that the Gov't feels they have the authority to tell you where and when you can exercise and enjoy your right to free speech; Liberty my ass.

The only reason I agree with your reaction is because you weren't able to get it recorded. But I still think the biggest problem we face these days is we allow our rights to be trampled because "it's just easier to do what they say". That's dangerous.

As a great man once said, "The founders would be ashamed of us for what we're putting up with."

I wonder if the police would feel like they have to come over and "deal with" you if instead you were a supporter of an anointed candidate like Rick Perry? Or Mitt Romney? Or even Bachman?

I doubt it.

9/11 was most likely an inside job. I don't know all there is to know about it. Nether do you. One think I DO KNOW is that #7 did not implode because of a fire. What else happened that day is up for grabs but im no sucker and #7 was BS all around. I would put money on 9/11 being an inside job.

Brush aside your blind patriotism for a brief second and look into #7 for me. Just that #7. Just toy with me. Look into it and let me know how stupid i am.

I have, and so has a close relative of mine who is a structural engineer, and went to some dumb presentation on building #7. A lot of stuff happened that was strange, but passenger planes flew into skyscrapers that came careening down, not a common occurence that can have predictable results. Overall his conclusion was that a lot of their 'evidence' was founded in pseudo-science that falls apart under professional review.

Also, from a different perspective, what would the government have to gain from pulling that off? resource acquisition and military contracts are the retort, but we've invaded Afghanistan because of 9/11 and their natural resources consist of Pomegranites, pistachios and some minerals, nothing that valuable. We already occupied most of the world, the government didn't need 9/11. Contractors already got what they wanted from all the lobbying they do.

lastly, how can anyone who believes in 9/11 truth support Ron Paul? If you believe there is that massive a beauracracy capable of hiding this from the world, you would have to believe massive beauracracy works, which is counter to libertarianisms core

Do you find that making fun of 9/11 truthers raises your self-esteem?

Does scaring off millions of potential RP supporters with your incoherent rantings that the candidate you profess to support has asked you not to link to him raise yours?

Yup. You got it...it was a planned implosion. The government was that good, they ran in and set up all the implosion devices in all the WTC buildings that collapsed without a single soul noticing. Yup!!!

That picture is stupid for the simple reason there is a 9/11 truther in it.

It's not about the particular message. It's about free speech in general. I don't care if there was some nut with a Marxist sign or whatever. He should be able to have his (or her) free speech wherever they are. That picture is not endorsing any views. It's saying that the views, no matter how controversial, deserve to be able to be presented to the world no matter where they are.

i support paul 100%. i question the government 100%. look up the "gulf of tonken incident:, look up :operation northwoods:. after you become an expert at those 2 email me and ill give ya 3 or 4 more. THEN you may see why people question things. i think you know anyway and though.

Very true. I know some that have private conveyances and do not register them. They are ultimately successful, but they have to deal with the occasional harassment/pull over.
