Timing the Collapse: Ron Paul Says Watch the Petrodollar

Nice article! How does one internationalize their savings? (I am clueless with this kind of stuff!)

I never had much desire to do that , paper is paper unless it is backed by something .Your access to it could be blocked.I just keep very few dollars. Mostly bought land , silver , lead , copper , gold . The Canadians do have silver coins with higher face denomination, buying some of those this week.

Exactly....the idea is to diversify your political risk and get your savings outside of the immediate reach of your home government and in a form that is difficult to confiscate. Like gold coins stored in a private vault in Singapore or a piece of real estate in a country you would like to spend time in.

Thank you for the advice!

I will say this , eventually it is possible a Country with a stable govt and economy may make a currency change to where it is backed by something. In that case , I might pick some of that up.Does not even matter what it is backed by , any commodity of value would work at this point.

If the house falls in , these govts will make mad grabs for anything to keep them afloat , 401k's, bank accounts etc

Petrodollar is basically the price of oil in dollars so yeah, if the price of oil is soaring, that could mean problems.

It isn't a special currency- just a term for the dollars used to buy petroleum.

Petrodollar is the REQUIREMENT that countries must buy OPEC oil in USD. This creates a demand for USD for any country that needs to buy oil from OPEC. This enables the FRB to inflate without limit knowing that the demand for dollars will forever exist irrespective of an over-abundance in supply.

Zippjuan, I am curious. Can you please share with us what your emergency plan is for when the USD collapses Weimar Berlin style?

I wonder if and how the new massive discoveries of US natural gas and oil (towards energy independence) effect the petrodollar collapse calculus.

Exactly

"The chaos that one day will ensue from our 35-year experiment with
worldwide fiat money will require a return to money of real value. We
will know that day is approaching when oil-producing countries demand
gold, or its equivalent, for their oil rather than dollars or euros. The sooner the better."

~ Ron Paul, 2006

You know BRIC wants off of the dollar reserve, "the Akula is faster, it's only a matter of time..."

BTW, the world is stalling BITCOIN ATMs... it's only a matter of time. ;)
