Curious what the health experts(?) on the board think regarding fish oil. There seems to be conflicting studies out there with results ranging from beneficial to detrimental. I have taken fish oil off an on much of my life, but I consider myself rather healthy in the first place, so whether there is a causation I am not sure. Do you take fish oil? What about Krill oil?

Fish oil is a fractionated food. It is only a fractional part of the whole food which would be cod liver oil. There are only a couple real cod liver oils made in the world. 1 is in America. 1 in Norway. IMO one is much better off eating the entire whole food for the complete compliment of naturally occuring vitamins, minerals, enzymes and co-factors that make for proper assimilation. The fish oil being sold to people is one of the only things that survive normal cod liver oil processing. Everything else gets destroyed. You get Omega 3s but the omega 5s, omega7s, vitamin d, etc etc all destroyed....

My dad takes fish oil.. most people who do are probably health conscious just like you are and thats where you derive your best health benefit(s) from IMO.

My mom's eye doctor recommended she take it for her excessively dry eyes. He also recommended some very expensive eye drops. The treatment is working - not sure which one but her cornea specialist said her eyes were much better.

For omega-3 fatty acid, I take Krill oil, derived from shellfish. Krill oil has better bioavailability than fish oil
and since Krill are low in the food chain there is no chance of contamination by mercury, which is a risk with
oil derived from large fish. Dr. Mercola lays out the benefits of omega 3 fatty acids: http://articles.mercola.com/omega-3.aspx
