Thomas Massie Defeats Peter Newberry In 2014 Kentucky Congressional Election

By Igor Bobic

Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) defeated Democrat Peter Newberry in the state's 4th Congressional District on Tuesday.

Massie was first elected to Congress in 2012, after previously serving as a judge-executive in Kentucky. He swept into office by a wide margin thanks in large part to tea party support.

Newberry, who is a small business owner and lawyer, attempted to run to Massie's right in the Republican-leaning district by arguing the tea party didn't go far enough in cutting waste in the federal government.
