This might crazy idea...

I don't think 249,000 people spread out over four states and Ontario are going to win us a primary.

It cant hurt... Theyd probably all go for ron paul especially with his support of selling raw milk and having the govt leave us alone and people take responsibilities...

The Amish are already allowed to opt out of things like social security so it should fit like a glove in my opinion..

I think most amish are in NY, PA, and Ohio.

Well they may help here in PA. They just busted an Amish farmer in a year long sting for transporting raw milk over state lines to Maryland. They set him up. They have also confiscated menonites milking equipment and arrested them for the sale of raw milk. Ron just introduced his bill to legalize raw milk. This should have broad appeal to all farming communites. Theres a Livestock Auction a block away from me and I intend to go there on Mondays and hand out campaign materials as soon as we have some updated stuff. Lots of farmers and Amish there every Monday.

49,750 votes in Ohio, 40,100 in Pennsylvania, 32,650 votes in Indiana, 10,250 votes in Wisconsin ext. in a Republican primary election doesn't really seem that bad. As a matter of fact, its great!

If I lived in Amish land I would have no problem promoting ron paul door to door with these people... Theyre good honorable people who believe in old school values..

I live approximately 2.5 hours away from Amish land in Pennsylvania... If somebody wanted to lead an effort to promote Ron Paul there I would definitely drive there and be willing to spend a weekend walking the beat for Ron Paul and liberty.

Well it couldn't hurt, either, and it seems if we could get a few on board they would be able to communicate the message to the rest.

Yeah, they're a very tight knit group.

Well you might have tough time selling them on gay rights and abortion: GOP courts Amish votes in swing states

“We hate that abortion issue,” said Sam Stolztfus, 60, an Amish farmer and gazebo maker in Pennsylvania’s Lancaster County, where an estimated 27,000 Amish live. “We’re totally against it. And as far as gay issues, that’s completely contrary to the Bible.”

Also consider that the time and effort might not have as much of a payoff as you'd expect.

But experts believe fewer than 10 percent of Amish ever vote, and the prospect of them turning out in great numbers in November is “not going to happen,” Kraybill [Sociologist of Anabaptist studies at Elizabethtown College in Lancaster] said. “These things occur gradually, over 30 to 40 years — not quickly.”

The Amish in Oklahoma do have some contact with the outside world through a furniture store and some restaurants. But I don't see them canvassing with us. They might advertise for him, though, in those establishments.

Worth a little conversation on the matter. I'll see what I get.

If we focus on Paul's social stance, while at the same time integrating Paul's views of how the government should stay away from what they can or cant produce (raw milk ext.) theres a high chance that we might get their votes.

Why abortion? Ron Paul is pro-life.

As far as gay issues, even though the Amish are against it, do they really want to push their lifestyle on everyone else through force?

Thirdly, these people don't have TV or internet I don't think, so they pretty much will get the information you give them. That means lots of stuff on raw milk, freedom living, religious freedom, etc..

Would the Amish be willing to use an electronic voting machine, or even put their ballot into an electronic scanner?

In '08 my stepdad lived near an area that was predominantly Amish, and every single family had a Ron Paul sign. The problem is, the Amish make up a very small portion of the voting population.

MO has a large Amish population, I grew up with many, went to school with several, and my dad is close friends with plenty of them. The ones he knows do support Ron Paul mostly for the NAIS thing, and things they identify with. However, most traditional Amish wouldn't be able to participate in voting, because of the machines, and lots of voting areas have cameras.

The Mininites however, can use technology, and would be a potential ally.
