I don't want to come off as all negative but frankly I think phoning people is a waste of time. I personally do not give phone solicitors a chance. I consider it an invasion of my time. Informative commercials is the only hope to get the message out in the wide spread capacity necessary to make Schiff win. If he does not kick in the money necessary to make this happen himself he should resign from his campaign. There is not currently enough capability of financial support from his base. He needs to kick in first. If he kicks in $1,000,000 today I even unemployed surviving on one income will kick in $100. Peter needs to make this happen. Schiff happens? Schiff needs to make this happen! Go Peter Go!!

I felt similarly for a bit, but my own experiences with phone banking have convinced me otherwise. Though I personally never even answer my phone unless I know who is calling (or if I'm expecting a call) I have had mostly positive experiences with calling on behalf of the Schiff campaign. I have convinced several people to check out Peter's videos on YouTube and have had lengthy conversations with some people about his convictions and ideas.

The people that phone banking seems to get the most benefit out of is the 65+ crowd. This also happens to be a considerable portion of the active, influential GOP base here in Connecticut. I have found that they are the most willing to listen and are almost always receptive over the phone. (I think many of them like somebody to talk to, especially about things like this!) If we want to win the primary in August, we will need to court a significant portion of this demographic. If you can be a "charming young man" to them over the phone, they will listen. :D

It's not a waste of time. I hear people say things like this sometimes. And it's always people basing it either on their own personal opinion about receiving unsolicited calls, or else anecdotal evidence based on false expectations about how easy it should be to win over votes for a candidate. You don't hear professional political consultants saying those things.

It's slow going. Maybe you get one new vote per man hour of labor. But there's no short cut to winning elections.

One new vote per man hour will not win this election in 2 months. Schiff needs to massively captivate Connecticut. That can only be accomplished by heavy advertising. Peter has said all along that very few people have even heard of him. I believe that to be a true statement. What has he done to get the word out? He will not win this election by phone banking. I am not saying that it is not rewarding for you, or that you will not win over voters but it is not the recipe for victory. He needs to spend his own money to jump start this campaign if he has any hope of winning!

Not doing that grunt work that only garners 1 vote/man hour is the same as conceding defeat. If Schiff supporters aren't committed enough to do what it takes to win, then he won't win. There's no secret weapon out there.

Yes, of course Schiff needs to do other things. But advertising and phone banking (and better yet, knocking on doors of Republican primary voters) are not mutually exclusive, they're complimentary.

When we consider how much it takes to win the election, the positive attitude to take isn't to say, "We can't do it." It's to ask, "How can we do it?" If we need volunteers to pull in 50,000 votes, then we need to plan on 50,000 man hours of labor from them and we need to figure out how to achieve that. If not, then Schiff should just do what Simmons is doing and suspend his campaign in case McMahon implodes and save his campaign funds for something else.

I am totally a Schiff supporter. My intention is not to be negative but realistic. Hopefully he is thinking along the same lines as I have suggested. He will not win unless something changes quickly and massively. He needs to get the word out. If the donations are not enough then he needs to spend his own money in order to win. He should jump start with the funds necessary to run a successful campaign or drop out and save us time and his and our money. If he wants to do this slow go spread the word by volunteer approach then he should be thinking 2012. If his base has not rallied by now with this strategy why would we think that it will tomorrow. I will vote for Schiff is he does not win the primary and somehow runs as an independent. I would rather vote for Schiff and lose than waste my vote on any other candidate. Schiff is the man for the job! But me yelling it from the rooftops or dialing the telephone will not get him the votes he needs to win this election. Neither will the select few on this forum.

It doesn't work that way. You can't expect the same payoff with GOTV efforts too long before the election. It takes tons of time and effort that has to be applied during a time frame when people are thinking about the election. If he wants to run in 2012, then he'll still need 50,000 man hours (or however much it is) of volunteer work in the summer of 2012. This isn't some optional aspect of the campaign. It's essential.

But I agree that Schiff needs to take a long hard look at what he needs to accomplish to win this, why whatever he's done so far hasn't worked, how he is going to change that, and whether or not it would be better to change plans to something else in the future.

i really like peter schiff, because of him, i'm ready for SHTF cashed out my 401k to buy gold/silver, Saiga 7.62, RRA Entry Tactical and have a nice stock pile of Aldi Spam :).

However i think everyone here is way to optimistic. he barely got the necessary signatures to be on the ballet. Even if he wins the primary, his going to go against a heavily D state. you guys can guarantee everyone who is on a government program and handouts is not going to vote for him. anyone who works for the federal government is not going to vote for him. with that said, theres only a handful of scum bags left over and most of these scum bags care about dumb shit like abortion or whats peter schiff's religion is or what color is peter schiff's tie is.

I mean i really wish he can pull a scott brown, but i just don't see the fire.

another side is their going to make fun of his dad too. Claim his a tax dodger even tho his technically right.

So conservative estimate, 90 calls an hour, if callers can reach 1/4 that's 22 people. Hopefully positively effect 12 of them. Obtain 3-6 votes and .5 to 1 future volunteer. So 6 votes and 1 future volunteer or so per hour, 6 hour days? That would be 18-36 votes and 3-6 future volunteers a day (and 72 positive reaches), but I'm unclear how big the crew was who made those 90 calls.

If it's the 6 people in the picture, it looks to me like these numbers could be half as good as I've made them and still make banking worthwhile compared to some other pursuits. I can see a guy being more effective at something else, but phone banking would be just the thing for some people too.
 
Thinking of this another way, if 6 guys get 1 new phone banker a day and 5 votes (very low estimate), in 30 days the crew would be 36 phone bankers getting 150 votes. But at that point, 36 phone bankers would be getting 6 new phone bankers a day, and 30 new votes a day. So the next 30 days would be 180 new phone bankers and 900 votes... that's as though new phone bankers and votes is all the benefit one could see out of involving all of these new people in an Austrian campaign.
