Jonathan Bernstein agrees. Allow me to point to Nick Gillespie's excellent piece as well. Alex, I think, gets it about right: my backing Ron Paul (again) is a form of protest against the denialism of the GOP with respect to foreign policy in the last decade - not a statement that his past newsletters and associations are irrelevant.
As I said in the endorsement, he's imperfect and I doubt he can win this thing. But I'd like to see him try.

Sullivan has over 1million readers... and according to a recent survey he did, something like 90% of them = 'progressive' and 'pro-obama' (which is pretty bizzaro considering Sullivan is/was a pretty traditional "tory" conservative up until the '08 election (where he endorsed Obama & Paul)... so hopefully fellow RP supporters aren't sending him angry emails. The guy has an audience and I believe that he is playing the 'long game' with them (re: 'how to win friends and influence people' style - instead of challenging his readers on the newsletters, it seems like he's going to instead keep nudging them with the BIG ISSUES they care about until they decide for themselves what's more important... words on a page that Ron Paul didn't even write or 30+ years of votes, public speeches, interviews and articles on the issues that matter most).

Personally, I try to forward him stuff like this youtube video whenever it pops up because if it makes it into a post, a lot of pro-civil-liberty, anti-war, anti-patriot-act, etc. people will read it.
