These Ads Are Turning Heads-

As a Mother of six children, I love these ads...
and for all you, who think that kids do not understand what is happening around the world...They do, or most do.

I would be more afraid of what their teachers are teaching your children...just like my youngest son, last week was having a debate with his teacher about government. I was shocked at what my son was telling me. Atleast my son knows and understands the truth. So please listen to your children...This is their future we are trying to protect.

Agree with the post objecting to using children in ads. See the AARP ad on Social Security, for example, or the GM and Toyota ads on environmentally friendly cars. What do the kids in these ads know about the future unfunded liabilities of Social Security or the legitimate questions some scientists have raised about the inevitability of global warming?

You can imagine the same kids in the Ron Paul ad appearing in an ad supporting the Iraq War. The long-haired girl says, 'We have to stay in Iraq because we have to defeat the terrorists " , the short-haired boy says 'We have to stay in Iraq because we can't just cut and run', the girl with short hair and earrings girl says "We have to stay in Iraq because our country's honor is at stake.", etc.

We have to persuade the Republican base that we cannot have guns and butter, as Ron argued so well in the debate last Wednesday. We have to persuade them by fleshing out arguments such as the following. A declining economy and collapsing dollar are a greater threat to our national security than Iran or other Middle Eastern nations. We cannot handle the $9 trillion dollar debt and the $50 trillion plus in unfunded liabilities for Social Security and Medicare unless we retrench from overseas. War and big government go hand in hand, and the Iraq War under Bush has created the biggest increase in federal spending since LBJ. The specters of 'Islamic terrorism' and '100 years of war' are neoconservative fantasies; peace will come to the Middle East through the spread of capitalism, free markets, and rising prosperity.

I'm sorry, but I don't think using children is the best way to make these arguments. I think children can help to pull at the heart-strings of conservatives by emphasizing that Ron Paul is not a big government leftist, but is for capitalism, free markets, the Constitution, etc. However, the Republican base still has a national security hang-up. I think the only way we can get them over it is through hard facts and figures and concrete policy proposals.

I hope there is enough time in the campaign for Ron's recently hired advisers to come up with concrete proposals on withdrawal from Iraq and tax and spending reductions for the first year and succeedidng years of his Administration. When confronted with the hard facts of proposed tax and budget cuts that would shame even Barry Goldwater versus the continued spendthrift irresponsibility of McCain and the neocons, some of the talk radio hosts, pundits, and conservative leaders may begin to turn, and then we can get the base.

yeah, sorry... I couldn't watch any of these past about 20 seconds or so. These kids could have been saying anything. It doesn't take much for a political activist (no matter what their beliefs) to get their kids to read off of a script. I'm sure it appeals to some demographic, though.

I agree that the commercials coming out of HQ really suck. That's kinda dissappointing. There are a few good grassroots ones out there that I really think would work, though. These come to mind. And these.

uh... it doesn't say that they're ads from HQ... and suprisingly enough, neither do I. Notice how my comment about lousy ads from HQ is in a different paragraph and responds to other's comments in this thread about HQ ads being lacking.

It will appeal to old people... the ones that vote. People under thirty are probably put off by them but they tend not to vote.

All of the ads do not need to be the same. Just because you don't respond to these does not mean they aren't reaching a key demographic. Right now all of the ads run by HQ are going for the exact same demographic. We've hit a ceiling. It's time we diversified a bit.

+100 The campaign has GOT to do something to get the media talking...

because 7 year olds care about an income tax

using children in ads = despicable.

Ask a 7 year old for half of his candy after he gets it at a parade. They understand the issues at a different level. The level that Mike Huckabee talks to the people at, a child level.

I agree generally with the position that using kids in ads is often somewhere from silly to despicable. That said however, I think there are instances in which it can be not only worthwhile but well done. Myself, the 3rd ad didn't bring much, and like most of the Democrat ads simply proves that a supposed adult can program a child, and that whoever did it thinks that I'm so dense that I'll fall for that. The others on the other hand did bring out good info, and make points that one could actually believe.
One other thing, the KID SHOULD HAVE THEIR EYES OPEN, not just reciting with eyes closed to avoid the light as in one of them.
