There's Still South Park

No, I can't imagine Matt and Trey ever passing up an opportunity for a dick joke. It'd be like Don Rickels (or Ricky Gervais) passing up the opportunity for an insult gag. Besides which , Paramount tried to talk them out of it.

But that $1.5 billion ($300 million a year) is Exhibit A in why Colbert's show is being cancelled - it just doesn't fit the business model that works for late night anymore. Colbert is losing $40 million a year, while Matt and Trey's share of the South Park profit stream is $300 million a year. A business model where you pay more to produce a show than people are willing to pay to watch - that just ain't gonna make it. The rest of late nigh is trying to maintain relevance by tapping into YouTube and social media income streams, but they're still in financial negative territory (just not as much as Colbert was).

It astounds me that South Park makes that much.

It's noteworthy that, of the two response types to these episodes - laughing with/complaining about - the politicians invariably go with the second. The non-politicians, like Charlie Kirk, go with the first.

I suspect this is because politics (and the desire to govern other people) is the best method of all those known for attracting narcissists, and the worst way of attracting talent.

Douglas Adams continues to be correct:

"To summarize: it is a well-known fact that those people who must want to rule people are, ipso facto, those least suited to do it.
To summarize the summary: anyone who is capable of getting themselves made President should on no account be allowed to do the job."

I'll always respect them for making fun of everyone equally but . . .
They've done better, IMO.

I thought the first episode was great (as did the streaming eco-sphere), and the second even better (Though neither as good as my all-time favorite: the one on Scientology where Tom Cruise refused to come out of the closet). The eco-sphere is pissed about having to wait two weeks between episodes.
The first episode, which included Trump’s legal threats, his Epstein-related controversies, and his relationship with media giants, broke ratings records, with nearly 6 million viewers and becoming the top-rated cable debut since 1999.

- Adults 18–49 rating: 0.996
- Share (percentage of TV viewers at the time): 9.20

'Fat jokes' it is, then.

Personally I think it's funnier when they use humor to point out the insanity of real-world issues (the Toilet Safety Administration episode was hilarious and it got people to think) but . . . meh, fat jokes. Alright.
